2006 Player Spotlight Series

Over the course of the offseason, we will be evaluating a multitude of players at every fantasy position. One such way we go about that is through the Player Spotlight series. Think of the Spotlights as a permanent record on some of the more intriguing players for the upcoming season. Each Spotlight will be featured in an article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Brett Favre, QB, Green Bay Packers

Player Page Link: Brett Favre Player Page

Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

When was the last time Brett Favre didn't get a response on his spotlight. Out of respect I'll give him a prediction.

3600 yards

22 td's

good for about #11 or #12th ranked qb.

Please Brett after this year....Hang it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big Ben's injury really distracted folks from other threads so far this week, but now that he's (thankfully) looking like he'll be OK, I agree we should get back to the Spotlights.

Favre threw 29 interceptions last year, but to me he has a ton left, particularly in fantasy circles where many leagues barely penalize for INTs. Last year he was in a state of absolutely forcing each and every throw to create miraculous wins single handedly...I don't think he'll do that this year.

Will he be a 4,000 yard, 28 TD guy again? Unlikely. But 3,500-3,600 yards, 60% completion and 24+ TD passes? I like his chances.

Last years season was horrible, but what really hurt Favre is two years of the off-season retirement shuffle... throw in the bad season and the critics had a feast...

But he's back and even without Javon, the team is much improved. He's 30+ TD's in 3 of the last 5 seasons.... I see Favre looking to go out strong. The defense will help keep him from having to force things and a healthy bubba gives him the outlet he has missed.

I see 3800yds, 28TDs, 13INTs, 40rushyds, 1rushTD

As a fantasy QB he has alot in the tank... and he will get it done this year...

i think that he will play conservatively in the first half of the season, trying not to make the kinds of mistakes he made in 2005. this will make him a nice 200-225 yard, 2 TD, 1 Int kind of weekly QB thru week 7.

then, he'll start to get tired of it all again when the packers aren't competitive enough and are in last place in north division. he'll try to work his "magic" by forcing balls through coverage. without a stud RB or WR combo, he'll be forced to rely on driver catching his lobs. i love driver, but he's not steve smith. for the second half of the season i see consistent yardage but a large increase in Int:TD ratio which progressively gets worse until the end of the season where favre is pulled for Rodgers in weeks 16 and 17.

and a large tribute will be held to him on his last monday night game.

Favre almost has to improve on last year's abyssmal season, but he's still the type of guy who's prone to take huge risks throughout the game, which often lead to turnovers.

With an average group of recievers but a better ground game, I think he'll be good for about 3,600 yds, 24 TDs, 15 INTs.

Two years ago this guy passed for 4,088 yards and 30 TDs.

Heck, last year he put up 3800 yards with no Javon Walker!

His defense is improving, but with a lacking running game he will be airing it out plenty.

350/550, 63.6% 4050 yards, 7.3ypa, 26 TDs, 19 INTs

Pro-Bowl and retirement too :)

If you looked up Brett Farve name in the dictionary one of the many words that define him would be "competitor". I don't know all the reasons Brett decidied to play this season, but I know one is to erase last year terrible season. Brett should slip several rounds this summer and can offer fantasic value.

4,300 passing

13 ints

31 td's

TURF

wow, I like Favre this year since you can probably get him late but those predictions are pretty lofty IMO. I'd put him around 3900 - 24 tds - 16 ints.

I think Favre's production will be directly related to who is actually running the team.

I see the pack's D as an improving unit.

I see a new Head Coach who has hired an OC that is firmly committed to running the ball.

If the head Coach & OC are in charge of the team, I see about roughly 3,000 yards passing (give or take a couple of hundred), 22 TD's & 16 ints.

If Favre takes over the team, I see 3,600 yards (give or take a couple of hundred), 28 TD's & 23 ints.

At this stage of Favre's career, rushing will be negligible.

This has no fantasy football impact but I think the following reflects poorly on Farve both as a teammate and would also concern me about Farves ability to play the game at a high level with declining skills. What this tells me is Farve is not much at studying film, something you need to do more off when your skills decline and I think it's a sad commentary on Farve that McCarthy felt the need to bring in another veteran QB to help mentor the young QB's on team. Combine this with Farves comments last year about not helping Rodgers and it does not paint a good picture of a good teammate in my mind.

Young QBs Get Lessons In Film Study

Mike Spofford, Packers.com - [Full Article]

At the request of Head Coach Mike McCarthy, Rich Gannon spoke to the Packers' young quarterbacks in their Friday morning meeting to describe his diligent off-the-field preparation during his 18-year pro career. Gannon's dedication to film study and mental preparation impressed McCarthy when the two worked together from 1995-98 in Kansas City. With Gannon's visit, McCarthy expects his young signal callers -- Aaron Rodgers, Ingle Martin, Brian Wrobel and Tom Arth -- to learn some valuable lessons in addition to whatever they can glean from watching Brett Favre on a daily basis.
