2006 Player Spotlight Series

Over the course of the offseason, we will be evaluating a multitude of players at every fantasy position. One such way we go about that is through the Player Spotlight series. Think of the Spotlights as a permanent record on some of the more intriguing players for the upcoming season. Each Spotlight will be featured in an article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Cadillac Williams, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Player Page Link: Cadillac Williams Player Page

Each article will include:

[*]Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member

[*]Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads

[*]FBG Projections

[*]Consensus Member Projections

The Rules

In order for this thread to provide sustainable value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

[*]Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player

[*]Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"

[*]To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the player

Projections should include (at a minimum):

[*]For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs

[*]For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

[*]For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

Right now I have Caddy pushing Portis for my RB#4. Very explosive runner that fights for every inch. If you watch the games at the end of last year, you'll know that he is actually the goal-line back. I've got him playing 14 games with 22 carries per game.

I take the 4 unhealthy games as a serious foot injury in which he shouldn't have been playing. Gruden is a damn smart coach and can easily adjust to play to his team's strength, which is Cadillac Williams.

It will be interesting to see where Caddy goes in re-drafts with regards to ADP.

Personally I think he is a very talented runner and while I have not heared much about his off-seasoning program I would expect him to improve on last year's totals.

That being said I think his ADP will make him a little risky this year like McGahee was last year.

Totals

1200 Rushing

7TD's

35 receptions

275 receiving yards

1 receiving TD

Good enough to finish just outside of the top 10

192 points (what you have above) is top 8.

Projections:

Rushing

1400 yards

11 TDs

Receiving

45 receptions

250 yards

Totals:

1650 yards

11 TDs

I read that Gruden said that Caddy will get at least 45 receptions this year and I'll take his word. 1400 rushing yards may be a bit high, but I think Williams is in for a big year. Only thing that scares me is Alstott hawking the TDs. Ultimately, I think Caddy will prove to be a goal line force and it won't really matter either way.

192 points normally is not Top 10--close but normally 10-12 range.

I'm very high on Caddy. He got injured and admitted that he didn't let the trainer know how bad it really was and it was foolish of him. He wanted to play and felt he could play through it. He's healthy this season and it's common for rookie RBs to get tired by the end of the season. I'm looking forward to a healthy season in which he can finish strongly.

Rushing: 1,500 yards + 10 TDs

Receiving: 28 receptions for 200 yards + 1 TD

Everybody likes a Cadillac. However, with the O-line still a work in progress, I don't think we can simply project his healthy game stats to a full season. He's probably going to be game planned against more compare to last year. This Cadillac will see nothing more than 1,300 yds and 6-8 TD's.

1280 rush yds

10 rush TD

30 rec

270 rec yds

He should be involved in more packages this season. Get more touches, including goal line carries.

I think these projections gives Caddy huge upside from here. I can see him being leaned on and getting 1500yds, but with Alsott hanging out there his TD's will be difficult to get to 10. But if Caddy proves its a better package to have him in on the goalline then all bets are off and he becomes an elite back.

In otherwords the danger of losing TD's is offset by the chance of getting a lot of carries/touches.

I really like Cadillac Williams, however I don't know if he deserves to be drafted at the position he will be drafted at. Im not sure that the Buc's offense will be better than last year. If that is the case should Cadillac be considered a Top 8 RB? Allstot will be a TD vulture, poor offensive line, poor offense, all point to buyer beware.

Cadillac Williams

280-310 Carries

1100-1300 yards rushing

5-7 TD's

Should be a late first round to early second round pick, will end up being a mid first round pick in redraft leagues. Too much hype for me. Im staying away unless he slides in my draft.

The Scientist

Did Alstott finally retire?
He will be back, but took a large pay cut to do so. You can expect him to be phased out of the offense, especially with the signing of a true FB. Alstotts impact will be minimal on Caddlilac except for an occasional change of pace along with pittman. The biggest problem with Caddy around the goaline is not that Allstott will vulture but rather that gruden loves to throw the ball in the redzone.

I think that his receptions in 06 will remain lower than expected and Gruden will continue to use Pittman to spell him and Alstott on the goal line. I may be wrong, but I don't think he will be able to go through the entire season.240 carries 1010 yards 5 TDs

22 catches 188 yards 1 TD

Lower than most expect where he has been drafted in the FBG survivors.
