Player Spotlight: Michael Crabtree (1 Viewer)

Comparing Crabtree to Calvin as a prospect would be hilarious unless people weren't actually doing it.

Bigger, stronger, faster. That's pretty much the difference. Both guys are aggressive receivers who use their hands to get open and go get the ball. Crabtree is an outstanding player after the catch. He reads his blockers, can overpower DBs and has an eye for the open field. Calvin will do the same, but with more power. He came from an offense with Reggie Ball throwing strikes, Crabtree came out of Leach's system. I like Crabtree as a player, but not in fantasy this year.

33, 470, 2 TDs

I don't see how you can compare anyone to Calvin Johnson except maybe Randy Moss. I'm not talking pure production mind you more size, frame, speed and explosiveness.

Crabtree should be a good rookie WR but those aren't usually much to get excited about. I saw a lot of 50/650/6-7 projections and I agree with them especially when you consider that his foot can limit him physically and will lengthen his learning curve.

Crabtree doesn't have the brain to make a huge impact his rookie year. I love his talent, but he isn't a Fitz/CJ mental wise. He will need time to learn how to be an NFL WR.600 yards/4 TD's.But by his 3rd year he'll be a top 5 fantasy WR.
By his 3rd, 4th, or even 5th year, he still might not be the best WR on his own team.....

Yeah, the comparisons have always been peculiar to me. Crabtree and Calvin have two things in common.1) They are both black2) They play the WR positionEnd of comparison. Calvin vs Crabtree is a world apart in ability and it will also be a big difference in production at the NFL level as well. Calvin beats double- and triple-coverage, uses his body to gain separation easier than anyone in the league, not even close. At 6'5 and over 240lbs with LIGHTNING speed......everyone please just stop any comparisons right now before all cred is lost

4 to 5 years down the road Crabtree will be the WR people are looking to draft #1 on their fantasy team.
Uhhhh, probably not.I believe Crabtree may turn out to be a good player, but not great like Fitzgerald/Calvin. I don't see the explosiveness in his game, and yes, Fitz is very explosive in snaring the ball out of the air vs any coverage as well as his new and improved RAC ability.

'09 numbers should come in around

89 targets, 49 receptions

630 yds

3 TDs
I guess you have not seen much of Crabtreehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aJZsjImymc
No offense but that is college. He may be great or he may be a flop in the NFL . Only time will tell. Remember all the hype surrounding Reggie Bush...how has that worked out.
Completely different players playing different positions. Tell me what do WR's and RB's have in common?
They both have to transition from college to the NFL.

Bump. Rookie WRs are one thing. Holdout rookie WRs are another.

I think he's a dud for this year, but what about subsequent years?

30-400-3

WR3 takes over for Bruce at end of year, no redraft value this year.

Next year SF uses 2 #1s to move up and get a QB. Value is still low in redraft.

Crabtree is a great "trade for" candidate from disgruntled dynasty owners after Yr2. I don't think he's startable in FFB until Yr3, or Yr2 of the new QB. Also, the wheels come off Gore around this time and the offense transitions from focusing on Gore to focusing on the strong young WR corps of Morgan, Crabtree, Hill, etc.

I agree. Most rookies who hold out for longer than a week or two are behind everyone at camp and usually do not have time to catch up.say what you want about his talent, if he misses too much of camp, he wont be a starter going into the season.End of discussion.
