2006 Player Spotlight Series

Over the course of the offseason, we will be evaluating a multitude of players at every fantasy position. One such way we go about that is through the Player Spotlight series. Think of the Spotlights as a permanent record on some of the more intriguing players for the upcoming season. Each Spotlight will be featured in an article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Reggie Wayne, WR, Indianapolis Colts

Player Page Link: Reggie Wayne Player Page

Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"

For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs

For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsBest of Luck and ENJOY!

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the Colts passing game this year.

Last year, defenses smothered the deep passing game, and while Manning still picked teams apart, Wayne and Harrison were held from getting downfield.

I cant help but think the Colts can adjust to this, and expect Wayne's #s to return to higher levels.

90/1300/10

The Colts will go on an all out aerial assault this season. The loss of Edge leaves the Colts with possibly the worst RBS in the entire NFL. Wayne, Harrison and Stokley will all benefit.

Wayne:

94 receptions, 1320 yards, 12 TD

With Edge out of the picture and a relatively unproven rushing attack, I'm guessing opposing defensive coordinators will continue to take Harrison and Wayne away (relatively) and force the Colt running game to control the line of scrimmage.

I'd draft Wayne based on last years numbers with a slight uptick in TDs. Put me down for 82 catches, 1150 yards, and 7 TDs.

I think without Edge, teams can sit on the passing game a little more. The Colts offense started a b it slow this past year didn't it? Without their usual dominant running game, I see them starting slowly yet again.

In the end Wayne should get something along the lines of:

85 receptions 1100 y ards 7 tds.

Last year Wayne had more catches then Harrison and only 90 or so yds less. His TD took a hit compared to 2004. obviously with Edge gone the offense will be more passing focused. I think Wayne outpeforms Harrison this year as he makes his climb to Indy #1. In the playoffs he was making plays while (as usual in January) Harrison did nothing

95 catches 1310 yds 13 TDs

Reggie Wayne warrants more discussion than this. So far we have four guys who believe Wayne will be among the fantasy elite, yet clearly after last season I'm not sure the consensus views him as equivalent (or better than) Marvin Harrison anymore.

Does anyone worry he'll be overvalued?

Does his new contract $$$ concern anyone?

I think Wayne is a very good receiver, but was a benefit of the stars lining up right for that offense in 2004. I think he will slightly improve over last year in catches, yards and will hit between his 2004 and 2005 totals in touchdowns.

85 receptions - 1105 yards - 7 touchdowns.

I see Harrison slowing down quite a bit, 80-1100-9 or so. The new contract doesnt worry me, I dont see Peyton letting anyone slack off on that offense.Id expect to see the TEs and Stokely used alot more this year as Peyton throws for 4500 or so.
