Players added to NFL teams IN SEASON (1 Viewer)

Just curious as to what players historically have been added to teams that amounted to much of anything who were acquired as free agent signings or by trade after opening day. Specifically those that did something noteworthy.

I'm asking because I can't think of any, and with all the WR and RB talk this week of potential signings or trades, I was trying to figure out examples of when those types actually worked out IN THAT SEASON.

Branch was traded to Seattle after week 1 in 06. Had one multiple TD game against the Rams early on and then fizzled while he learned the system.

Andre Rison was picked up off waivers by Green Bay quite deep into the 1996 season and scored a long TD in the SB that year.

Also, Chris Chambers for the Chargers last season. Eric Dickerson for the Colts in 1987 is another.

There's an article related to this from 2004 at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writ...ades/index.html

I had forgotten the Herschel Walker trade was mid-season. That probably had more long-term impact than any other trade, though not from a positive point of view for Walker.

Was in a discussing about Benson and SA before the season started. These are 2 players I will stay away from if signed by any team. I don't think players make a significant contribution if they are signed during the season "off the street." Players traded for during the season may be different.

I was just trying to figure out how often a team signs a player from out of nowhere and they have any sense of fantasy relevance. Trades were a consideration too, but I suspect name players get traded more and contribute more than street free agents do.
