I'd be curious about the Giants if they win and the Vikings lose. That gets them to 10 wins and clinches the #1 Wild Card seeding. No one wants to go into the playoffs on a losing streak, but I wonder if they sit Plax for a couple of weeks to get healthy.
I don't think any team is going to start sitting players starting week 15 (unless as in the Indy/Balt game, it's a total blowout)
Week 16: Indy is the most likely candidate, but only if they win week 15 and Pitt loses week 15, even then, I still think they play the entire game.
NE only if they lose to the NYJ. (They might only play a half if they are up big).
Week 17: You only really have to worry about teams that have locked up their seedings and don't have a bye in the playoffs (ie. Seattle/NYG/Pitt/SD) and key players have injuries (Gates/Jacobs/Plax) The teams that have a bye will most likely play their starters at least a half because otherwise they'd go a full 3 weeks between games and that might be detrimimental to the team.
All in all, i think the whole "sitting" players gets blown out of proportion and doesn't occur as frequently as people think.
No worries in Week 15. If you have a 1st round bye that would mean you would have 16, 17, and 18 off. That's WAY too much time to have off. The only risk would be a blowout, but by then there should be plenty of points on the board
I'd love to see some stats on how players do in the playoffs if they sit out week 16 and week 17, versus sitting out week 17 versus not sitting out. Does sitting your players really lead to a better chance for a win?
Not saying they won't rest Plax, but playing at Tampa is significantly better than playing at Seattle. My question is whether it will do him any good. I would guess they would have sat him already if 1-2 weeks would make a difference. IIRC, he kept playing because he could not do any further/permanent damage.
