Players who chose to wear the #1. Sign of an alpha or total “look at me” move?
Did you ever wear #1? Would you? Why? Why not?

I wore #1 in hs and college. I was a little Coqy.... but i was pretty good too.
I think I was given the #1 when I was in Little League. I was the smallest guy on the team, and shirts were numbered from smallest to largest.
Never really associated it with alpha’s more than any other number.

chose it
It’s funny because I am not really a “look at me” type of guy.
I was a center midfielder, and I think it brought a little attention, but not a dramatic amount. I liked that because I was a high assist guy, so when dodging, I wanted to draw the 2nd and 3rd slide to hit my open teammates.
Never considered wearing 1 a look at me in baseball.... 69 in beer league yes. 1 in baseball no shrug
I wore #8

Isn’t #10 a thing with you footy guys? Or is that a recent trend?

I believe 10 and 9 are the playmakers in soccer. I played Lacrosse.

Lacrosse is such a great sport. I wish I played. Even though I was born and raised in Maryland, I didn’t watch a single game or pick up a stick until after HS.

the summer after my freshman year in college, one of my hs teammates and coach represented the west coast in the allstar game (played at Hopkins). I was in NY with another good friend at the time. we went to watch the game... so fun. also met the gate brothers at that event (syracuse).
#1 in High School (QB) and #11 in College.

The most slimming # is 88.Fat guys can't wear #1 fwiw.
Honestly I don't recall why I chose 8 but it was my number from like 10 years old into post college. I wore 10 for bball. Was goalie for soccer I don't recall having an actual numberNever considered wearing 1 a look at me in baseball.... 69 in beer league yes. 1 in baseball no shrug
I wore #8
For Cal?
Aren’t you a basketball guy too?
and number 1 wasn’t allowed for QBs in college then so just doubled up the 1’s.#1 in High School (QB) and #11 in College.
It’s only fitting that our very own FBG Vanity Smurf wore number 1!
(That’s supposed to be a compliment)
The equipment guy told Roy Hobbs that #8 was unlucky.Honestly I don't recall why I chose 8 but it was my number from like 10 years old into post college. I wore 10 for bball. Jim OttoNever even crossed my mind that the #1 could be considered a look at me number; #00, on the other hand.

He probably deserved the #00 more than anyone. But not if his name was Jim Atta.Jim OttoNever even crossed my mind that the #1 could be considered a look at me number; #00, on the other hand.
I like when players put their first name on their jersey. Definitely works for some. Soccer does so many things better(see relegation). Elton pulls it off well.
That’s a cool Picture
Yao Ming had “Yao” on his jersey, but I think that was because Chinese names list the surname first.s (H)Akeem the only player to do it in America? I seem to recall him having it for a short time.
