PLEASE: some input on this insane scoring system... (1 Viewer)

I just am not sure what to make of this. Especially when you get to the "Special Scoring". There seems to be an emphasis on the big plays and 12 pts for a QB rushing TD would elevate Vick I assume. Also the kicker pts are way different. Anyone else ever participated in a league with scoring like this:

Looks like a mess, but what's your question?
I guess I am a bit confused on the yardage scoring for WR and RB. For instance, if a wr doesnt get over 110 yards, does he get no yardage points? And then are the bonus points awarded for the increments listed above and beyond the 110 yards? Also I was hoping to find someone who has ever seen a scoring system like this that might shed some light on some of the nuances. Like what strategy worked, etc.Micah

Looks like it. I guess it rewards boom or bust guys rather than consistency. You know, looking at it a little more, I think you'd drive yourself crazy trying to adjust individual player rankings according to this system. As noted, try to see if it affects the relationship between each position but draft within the position as you always would.

A mess indeed and doubt you will find someone who has played in this format. With the exception of Ru. TD's for QB (which WOULD move a few QB's up a notch or 5), consider all else equal. When you get a strange scoring system, keep in mind that all positional players are still the same and rankings are stagnant (with the exception of PPR leagues and bonus for Carries, Pass Attempt, Completion %, etc). Your draft strategy should remain the same, just some postional rankings. At least if I read your scoring system correctly.

Had a similar type of point system in a league I was in last year. Nobody was happy once the season started. We've heavily modified our scoring system this year to be more traditional/straight forward. Is this an ESPN league?

I think thats pretty good advice, and it is appreciated. I just wonder if it might be owrth it to take more risks on big-play type wr's than the slow and steady stat guys. Like Rod Smith might not have as much value, but someone like Lelie might move up. It does change my QB rankings a bit I think, but overall, I think I will stay the course like you suggested- especially in the early rounds. Maybe take some unusual risks late?Micah

No, CBS Sportline. It is a keeper as well, with us being able to hold only 2 over. Also, this is an open-ended draft untill tomorrow night. Meaning the draft started last night, but until tomorrow night you just check the draft when you can and if you are up- you pick. We couldnt get an agreed time for a while, so the manager started the draft this way. We are in round 4, and so far I have LT, Bush, Holt, and Houshmanzadah. We might get to round 7 tonight, but not sure. 10 team league and I was drafting #3Micah

What the bonuses do is widen the gap between the studs (who consistently meet the yardage benchmarks) and the medieocre guys. What I would do is shoot exclusively for high-upside, boom-or-bust types once your starting lineup is filled. The guy who finishes as RB36 is not going to be all that different from the guy who finishes as RB536. So drafting someone like Kevin Faulk over someone like Michael Turner would be terrible.

Thanks for the tips and clarification...I was just able to grab Westbrook in the 5th round- great value there especially with the special points for rb's receiving yards.Micah

Thanks for the tips and clarification...
I deleted the clarification five seconds after I posted it (so you were quick if you saw it) because I don't think it was right. Here's how I'd interpret this:
ReYd - Receiving Yards 110+ ReYds = 1 point for every 10 ReYdsPlus a 15 point bonus @ 50+ ReYdPlus a 5 point bonus @ 75+ ReYdPlus a 5 point bonus @ 100+ ReYd
45 yards = 0 points.55 yards = 15 points.85 yards = 20 points.150 yards = 29 points. (25 for bonuses and 4 for the 40 yards above 110.)

Westbrook is interesting because anytime he gets 50 yards rushing and 50 yards receiving, that starts him off with 30 points. That's pretty big.But in 12 games, he did that only twice last year. (On the other hand, he got at least 50 rushing or at least 50 receiving in 9 out of 12 games, which definitely is good for a fifth rounder.)

The ADP 250 chart has Westbrook ranked 20, but average draft is #16, so it was a value pick. Plus he did have a ton of rec yards last year. So, we'll see. Not a bad backup I think. As for the points, I origionally interpreted it the way you did in the 2nd post, but then why the line about 110+ rec yards = 1 point per 10 yards. Makes me think to get any of the bonuses you have to get to 110 first. Or maybe the 110+ is a bonus that is all or nothing.

The 1 pt per 10 yards at 110+ yards is seperate from the bonuses. The bonuses are listed afterwards because bonuses are always listed after yards-per-point, but that doesn't mean you have to get 110+ yards before you are eligible for the bonus at 50 yards. (Otherwise, why have separate bonuses for 50 yards and 75 yards -- if you have to get 110 yards to be eligible for them, then you've already automatically gotten both 50 yards and 75 yards.) That's how I read it, anyway.

I concur with that. ThanksMicah
