Polamalu has history of concussions

Troy Polamalu - DB - PIT - Nov. 13 - 2:38 pm et

Troy Polamalu has endured at least six concussions.

Unofficially, it's probably over ten. Polamalu's proclivity for head injuries was a big concern when he was coming out of USC. He's avoided the injuries for the most part at the pro level, but the sight of Polamalu almost falling off the team's bench Sunday has to be a great concern for the Steelers.

Pitt's Polamalu leaves with concussion

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu received a concussion during the first quarter Sunday against New Orleans and did not return to the game. Polamalu, an All-Pro safety last season, was hurt during a Saints touchdown drive that cut Pittsburgh's lead to 14-7.

He was examined by doctors on the Steelers' sideline and, while he was not taken immediately to the locker room, remained on the bench for New Orleans' next possession, with Tyrone Carter taking his place. At one point, after being examined by doctors, Polamalu leaned sideways and nearly tumbled off the bench.

Later in the first half, the Steelers lost another starting defensive back, cornerback Deshea Townsend, with a concussion and an ankle injury.

With two starters out, the Steelers played backups Anthony Madison, Bryant McFadden and Anthony Smith in their nickel and dime alignments that use five or six defensive backs.

Hi all. Newbie to this forum, but long time IDPer.

Looks like Troy was cleared to play. But, is he a safe play?

He practiced fully two days in a row, but, given how he didn't play hard early in the season when he appeared to have some injury, I wonder if he won't be the monster that we know he CAN be this week.

My other choice is to pick up Dewan Landry (BAL) vs. Atlanta off waivers.

Our scoring system:

1pt - tackle

0.5 - assist

1.5 PD

3 INT

3 sack

2 FF

2 FR

6 TD

no yards

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Eph
