lets not get ahead of ourselvesPlease flame away. I've been impressed for a very long time and just think he is in the top 3 to ever play the position already.
So the previous six years don't matter?I knew this thread was coming. We haven't even finished 1/2 of 1 quarter of 1 game of the year.

Im not gonna dog on you for your opinion or thoughts but I think Polamalu is a ways from being compared to Ronnie... thats just me though.Do I think he could be considered in same class when its all said and done. Yes but not now.So the previous six years don't matter?I knew this thread was coming. We haven't even finished 1/2 of 1 quarter of 1 game of the year.
The guy is awesome. He's not even the best S in the AFC North.

Obviously taking a step back..you are 100% correct. Troy does still have to keep up a high level of production for several + more seasons. Call me crazy, but I think he can do it...This cat is just a game changer. Besides Ed Reed, I can't think of another player in the last 10-15 years who I'd rather have at safety.I knew this thread was coming. We haven't even finished 1/2 of 1 quarter of 1 game of the year.Im not gonna dog on you for your opinion or thoughts but I think Polamalu is a ways from being compared to Ronnie... thats just me though.Do I think he could be considered in same class when its all said and done. No doubt. But why post this thread at the VERY beginning of the year? This is an end of the year type thread. Very similar to if I posted a thread proclaiming LT as the best RB ever after his first TD week 1.So the previous six years don't matter?I knew this thread was coming. We haven't even finished 1/2 of 1 quarter of 1 game of the year. The guy is awesome.
And INT'sHe's leading the league in tackles this season.![]()
i'l take polamalu, thanks. dude is a beast. He's not even the best S in the AFC North.![]()

But the pool is light on threads this time of yearBarely got PT his rookie year and has missed games 2/3 years. Shrugs.. If he's on the field he's a beast but can he stay healthy is the question. Plays a very physical style and makes me wonder if he can hold up. We'll seeAs a football player I'll take Polamalu anyday but not over Ed Reed..So the previous six years don't matter?I knew this thread was coming. We haven't even finished 1/2 of 1 quarter of 1 game of the year. The guy is awesome.
Agreed. Reed is amazing, but Troy is flat out the best defender in the league when healthy. The last defensive player that was as much of a game changer as Polamalu was Deion Sanders in his prime. It's just unbelievable how many plays he's involved in during a game.i'l take polamalu, thanks. dude is a beast. He's not even the best S in the AFC North.![]()
Ridiculous statement IMO...When's last time Polamalu won DPOY?Agreed. Reed is amazing, but Troy is flat out the best defender in the league when healthy. Ed Reed almost and couldve won it 2x.. just saying
Reed is an insane talent, but TP is the better all-around player.Polamalu isn't even the best Pittsburgh safety of the last 10-15 years. 11 time pro bowler and 6 time first team AP All Pro CB/FS Rod Woodson, anyone? Dawk still has Polamalu cold, too. Steve Atwater, Rodney Harrison, Darren Sharper, and John Lynch also names worth mentioning.Obviously taking a step back..you are 100% correct. Almost and could've? Reed won it once and he deserved it. But let's face it, DPOY is about the flashy stats. Not that Reed didn't deserve the award, but the stats just don't fully account for everything that Troy does. Ed Reed is much more of a ballhawk than what Polamalu is, but on a per season basis, Polamalu outshines Reed in tackles, solo tackles, sacks and passes defensed. I'm not sure where to find it, but I'd bet that Polamalu also leads in tackles for loss.Ridiculous statement IMO...When's last time Polamalu won DPOY?Agreed. I'll agree that he is, but there is some doubt.HAHA.. prob. reached with my statement but I'll say.. Polamalu better all around football player but better dynamic/game changer.. no doubt REED.Reed is an insane talent, but TP is the better all-around player.
My response to this line of thinking is always...could players from the 60-70's compete in the game today? Which the answer is generally no. So generation? Maybe. A very stong case could be made. This "Best of all time" talk is absolutely ridiculous. It always is. Lets take baby steps and work our way backward. Is Polamalu the best safety in the league today? Id argue no, but maybe others disagree. If yes, is he is the best safety of the decade? If yes, Is he the best safety of his generation? If yes, is he the best safety of the modern era? If yes, is he the best safety of all time? Why the need to rush to all-time absolutes? Theyre short-sighted, knee jerk reactions.
I really can't put Sharper up there, although he is great. TP is in the same group as Lott, Woodson, Dawkins, Reed and Houston. Fact is, there just aren't that many elite Safeties in NFL history.Polamalu isn't even the best Pittsburgh safety of the last 10-15 years. 11 time pro bowler and 6 time first team AP All Pro CB/FS Rod Woodson, anyone? Carnell Lake was very good but I guess he was more at CB.. maybe fogetting?I really can't put Sharper up there, although he is great. Dont mean to sound so curt, but are you kidding? Have you even considered the players from these - and other - generations or are you arbitrarily annointing Troy as the best ever? Here are some other names not mentioned in this discussion. Any reason we are omitting them?* Ken Houston - Widely considered the best of all time along with Lott. He played from 67-80. You dont think he could hang with modern players?* Larry Wilson - One of the biggest hitters of all time* Willie Wood - Probably more athletic than any Safety playing today* Mel Renfro - World class sprinter could cover the entire field * Paul Krause - Best ballhawk of this or any generation - all time INT leader* Brian Dawkins * Kenny Easely* Steve Atwater* Emlen Tunnel - Another guy with world class speed and tons of INT's. * Jack Christianson - Defensive leader of the great Lions dynasty in the 50'sAnd that doesnt even take guys like Lott, Woodson, Reed, etc into account. Still want to annoint him as the best EVER or should we let him finish the game first? My response to this line of thinking is always...could players from the 60-70's compete in the game today? I'd put Polamalu above Sharper, Lynch, and Harrison. I'd put him in a group with Atwater and Reed. I'd put him behind Dawkins, Lott, and Woodson. This is assuming a typical career arc- obviously of Polamalu picks up his play he can move up, and if he falls short of expectations he can move down.I really can't put Sharper up there, although he is great. Harrison's the most overrated "elite" safety in history. Two pro bowls (admittedly should have been three) and two first-team AP All Pros. Like the vast majority of Patriots (Harrison, Seymour, Bruschi, etc) from this decade, he gets dramatically overrated because of the SBs, far more than his play on the field would merit. I'd rank him on par with Sharper, and behind all of his other "elite" contemporaries (Lynch, Atwater, Dawkins, Reed, Polamalu, Woodson)."X"SSOG said:I'd put Polamalu above Sharper, Lynch, and Harrison. Here's a prediction: both Lott and Polamalu, of course, come from USC, but neither has been the best safety at that university. The one who is, is playing there right now. His name is Taylor Mays, and he will be, I predict, the best safety ever to play in the NFL, barring injury.
most athletically gifted but not best football player...Woodson never played safety for the Steelers if I'm not mistaken.SSOG said:Polamalu isn't even the best Pittsburgh safety of the last 10-15 years. 11 time pro bowler and 6 time first team AP All Pro CB/FS Rod Woodson, anyone?
