POLL: Free Agency - Waivers or Auction (FAAB)? (1 Viewer)

Our CBS Sportsline league has discussed changing from our long-standing weekly waiver process (runs on Wed night, priority based on total points) to the Sportsline blind-bid free agent auction (FAAB). Question for those who have used both: which way is better? Would there be any downside to switching to FAAB?

I'm a big fan of FAAB, and I voted for it. I only play in money Leagues and wouldn't play in one that didn't incorporate it, because it adds an element of luck to the game, and when playing for money, I'm all for eliminating as much luck from the equation as possible.

That being said, it's not for everyone, so any steps taken to minimize the luck factor, I'd be in favor of, and I think the most effective way to accomplish that goal is by delaying the start of W2F waivers until a random # of games have been played so that Teams can 'find their level' and give a more accurate version of who's 'worst' and who's 'first'.

I'd suggest not starting the waiver wire until after Week 3 results have been tabulated in 13-week Leagues, and after Week 4 for 14-week Leagues (regular season).

...and people, please - end the Waiver Wire when, or before, the Fantasy Regular Season ends. I think it's absolutely bush league to allow Teams to continue making claims through the playoffs. At some point, you have to dance with the girl you brought to the party.

I also strongly feel that in Dynasty Leagues, any Players added during in-season waivers ought to be only held 'under contract' for the current Fantasy Regular Season. When the current Season ends, the Player becomes a Restricted Free Agent, with the Owner holding his rights through the RFA Bidding Period.

While FAAB/Blind Bids is a superior mechanism for Free Agency to a Waiver priority system, CBS does not provide for First Come First Serve waivers to follow the FAAB run(s), once the bids have been processed. You may simply select the nights you wish FAAB to run.

This means that an Owner with a last minute deactivation cannot make a free move at 12:45pm on Sunday to replace a player...typically a kicker or tight end - any position where you might not have a viable replacement on the bench, or the substitute player on the bench is on a bye.

On CBS, the result of the Saturday night FAAB run (or the last run of the week) is what you're stuck with....

This is one in a litany of small problems with CBS - continually proving that the most expensive product is often not the best.

Agreed. FAAB and it's not even close. But CBS's system does have in it (as does the site as a whole)

Not sure why this is an issue if everyone can't decide or likes both. We use both in our league every week and it works great. BB for til Wed deadline and then a Waiver pickup runs to the weekend with usual WW and BB rules applying. Do both!

Art_ can you explain further how you use both with CBS? We're thinking of changing to FAAB (CBS) this season and I've been told by CBS that ALL players will need to be picked up via the FAAB system, there is no first come first serve according (again) to CBS. What you can do is allow zero dollar bids which I assume would be the closest thing to a FCFS although they will have to be processed through the FAAB system.

Switch to FAAB and move league to cheaper and superior MFL

ESPN is free, they now have faab with free agency after clearing waivers... Or once a day faab at designated time only

I was going to switch to FAAB on CBS...there is no way to do a free for all after FAAB is processed? Big Sigh

Honestly I hate MFL much prefer RT Soorts great flexibility to run league the way you want

On CBS the commish just has to manually change it to FCFS after the FAAB runs each week. It's not that big of a deal. The system remembers each team's budget, but I take a screenshot at the conclusion of the auction so we can double-check.

First thing you should do is leave CBS and go to any other hosting site. CBS is the worst. MFL is cheaper and better, Fleaflicker is free and better, and so on.

Second thing you should do is implement FAAB, it's the most fair way to handle free agents. Both MFL and Fleaflicker allow FAAB.
