Poor die sooner in midwest (Indianapolis) - Shuke?? (1 Viewer)

interesting stats. Income life expectancy is pretty tight correlation, but correlation is not causation.

I think a key factor is how many people are reluctant to move in order to improve their financial/health situation. The main excuse is to stay near family.

I look at that graph and I see oppressive,  humid summers, AND periods of intensely cold winters. Combine that with crappy air quality due to pollen/mold, and I think poor, old people never get a break in the Midwest/Ohio River Valley.

What would the other explanation be?
The article does highlight the point I was thinking of: that you can't infer that higher income automatically leads to longer life expectancy:

Wealth buys higher-quality medical care, which allows people to live into old age. But a long line of evidence, including the new work, suggests it’s less obvious than it might seem. The affluent seem to live in healthier ways. They exercise more, smoke less, feel less stress and are less likely to be obese.

It’s not even certain that the cause and effect flows from higher income to greater health; to some degree, it may go the other direction as well, because people who are healthy are better able to hold down a demanding job, and so have higher incomes.

I would say the main difference is the poor live a YOLO type of life, and the rich live a YODO type of life

The weather ages the #### out of people. Every time I go back to Iowa I'm amazed at how old people in their 30's look.
