Shanesha Taylor, a woman from Scottsdale, Arizona, is homeless. So when she got asked to come in for a job interview last Thursday, she must have been excited by the prospect. But when you’re homeless, there isn’t always an easy way to take an hour off from watching your kids to be at an interview. That’s how Taylor, 35, wound up losing her children to Child Protective Service — and losing out on the potential job.

Taylor was charged with two felony counts of child abuse for leaving her six-month-old and two-year-old in a car with the windows cracked last Thursday for at least 45 minutes as she sat in an interview for a potential job. She told officers that she was homeless, so she couldn’t leave her children in the house, and she had no one else to watch them.
Apologies if Honda.

Scrappy lady fighting to live the American Dream or horrendous parent whose kids can only benefit from being removed? My mind's not yet made up.

Sorry, you can't leave your kids in a car.
Yeah, you just can't do that. But I gotta think there are some charities that could have helped if she had reached out. That said I feel for her as her mug shot is pretty heartbreaking. Hopefully she gets a nice judge and the publicity helps her land a job.

If her kids were 9 and 7, maybe it's understandable. But a 6 month old? Unreal.

How about bringing the kids into the building and asking if someone could keep an eye on them for 45 mins? Say you can't afford child care, but you could if you got the job, and maybe earn some extra compassion from the decision maker.

Please. That would be the shortest interview ever and no she ain't getting the job.

You want to watch a 2 year old and an infant for 45 minutes while trying to actually do your job? She'd have been told to hit the bricks before she finished asking the question.

If my options are a hail mary hoping for compassion, or leaving my 6 month old in a car, I'm taking the former.

Stop having children while she's unemployed and homeless?
jfc.
Why that response? Would you, as a person, want to bring a child in the world, knowing you couldn't care for it, provide it food and shelter, provide a future? I wouldn't. I always wanted to provide for my children, and did everything I could to be prepared before making the decision to go forward with having a child.

Easy to say from the comfort of your computer. If you were on the street and your kids were hungry it might be a little more gray.

Because the likelihood that she was homeless when she had the kids is pretty spectacularly low, you dork.

How about this:

If you are cutting it so close financially that losing your job is going to cause you to be homeless....dont have kids

If you haven't saved up enough money to withstand a major financial hardship....dont have kids

If you don't plan on working two minimum wage jobs if you lose your main one to raise your kids....dont have kids

If you don't think you can rapidly get another job if you lose your current one....dont have kids

If you aren't ready to give up all luxuries over the next 18 years if necessary to raise your kids...dont have kids

Show a little self restraint poor people, stop having sex if you cant handle the repercussions

That's fantastic. You realize the vast majority of American adults have little to no savings and would be in major trouble if they lost their jobs?

25+ million kids are born poor every single year.

Lets judge and give 'em some more "I told you so's:. That'll work.

This is about poverty, not about the basic human drive to reproduce.

And btw, I would love to feed you some estrogen/estradiol tablets every day for a year and cut off your testosterone for a year. Would enjoy seeing your reults.

I realize that....So why have kids?

I know people want to raise a family and the kids bring joy to their lives...But at the risk of having to raise them homeless? If you cant support the children, dont have them

They have sex. Thats merely a possible result of sex, as are a few other outcomes. And often its with zero intention or want of kids.

Sex is fun. Sex is bliss. Sex is a basic driving force of the human species.

Teaching/pushing absitinence... you think that has a positive result or a negative result on the issue? (Let alone after the fact 'I told you so's".)

If you wait until you're financially stable, you're almost certainly in your 30s.

Which means that your kids are at an astronomically higher risk for autism, mental illness, cerebral palsy, and lots of other disabilities.

Who do you think is more irresponsible, the one who might lose her job and have trouble getting another, or that one?

this will be controversial, but we need to encourage more abortions too.. way too many baby daddys out there banging and leaving..

I would say positive, but I am willing to listen to your reasoning why you think it would have a negative result (I assume that is what you are going to say)

I would say the person who has the kid and then forces the rest of society to bare the burden of raising them.

- States that prescribe abstinence-only sex education programs in public schools have significantly higher teenage pregnancy and birth rates
