Porter going to New England? (1 Viewer)

WEEI in Boston's Jon Meterparel reported Tuesday that the Patriots are close acquiring Raiders WR Jerry Porter, but other sources including NFL.com's Pat Kirwan have dismissed the claim.

Don't call them the New England Raiders just yet. Meterparel hasn't been the most reliable reporter in the past, although the possible deal makes sense on the surface. If Porter is available in your fantasy league, it's a good idea to pick him up in case. Sep. 12 - 10:14 am et

Uhhhh... did the patriots not just Gabriel from the Raiders? This would make no sense.

Didn't the Raiders want a 1st for Porter?Didn't the Pats just acquire a 1st? :tinfoilhat:
iirc, the two big obstacles for a Porter trade were:a. Raiders wanting either (2) first rounders or 1(1) first rounder and another high pickb. Raiders want Porter to pay back the bonus he just received. If both are true, I cannot see Porter being traded.

Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak (former Pats QB) discussed this on 790AM The Score earlier this morning, but it was little more than a "What if" discussion with little to no foundation. I don't know where WEEI is getting this, but I'll be switching over on my drive to see if there is more.

So far, nothing to see here.

I can't see the Pats going after a very high character-risk player.

I agree that his talent would be a great fit in NE, but Porter has done nothing but scare other teams away from wanting him. There is no way in hell that any team would give a 1st rounder for Porter. I'd be shocked if they got anything better than a 3rd at this point.

I know what you mean. If they do this, what's next, Corey Dillon?

I listen to the Dennis and Callahan show every morning, which is the show in which Metaparel is the sports flash guy. The WEEI Sports Flash (especially in the morning), is about 20% news and 80% editorializing. I heard Metaparel talking about how Porter was inactive last night via a coach's decision, and they briefly discussed the possibility of the Patriots going after him, but it was mostly joking, and complete hypothesizing. I'm not sure why Rotoworld had Metaparel "reporting" it because, unless I missed it, that wasn't what he was doing at all.

Meter is an idiot and completely unreliable. So is John Dennis, for that matter. Callahan carries that show.

if Gabriel's worth a 3rd, I want to offer a 1st for Moss. Forget about Porter.

Seriously, why not ask again since Gabriel came so cheap?

I hope they tell the pats they want 2 1st rounders or something like that.
The Raiders were asking for two first-rounders when they 'shopped' him in the preseason. I remember Porter commenting on how he didn't think he was worth two first-rounders. I just don't think the Raiders are interested in dealing him. PFW said that other teams reported that the Raiders were not negotiating with teams that were interested.

Gabriel reportedly was dealt for a 5, which makes the request for Porter look even sillier.

The chances that the Pats give two 1s for him are nil.

 Poor analogy. Porter is light years ahead of Dillon on the Loser Scale.

I hope you forgot this :sarcasm:

I heard on Rome that Porter was cheering and pumping his fist when Brooks was sacked and on other Oakland plays gone bad. Anyone see this on TV or even better, at the game?

FYI

Dilon's agent made him go have a sitdown with BB. Dillon had to sell the team on his character before he was signed.

dillon's agent earned his money for that.

If the Patriots wanted a guy with a ton of talent but has head issues they could get someone a lot cheaper than a first round pick... They wouldn't have to give up any draft pick to sign C. Rogers.

I don't think any team would spend anything more than a fourth rounder on Porter at this point.
and *IF* NE got Porter for a 4th rounder, I'd be OK with it.Sure, NE tries their best to get "character" guys, but let's not pretend they're all choir boys. I think it's less about character and more about football I.Q. or football intelligence; it just so happens that those guys that are smarter about football are smarter about life - in general.
