Portis 50-50 to play week 11 (1 Viewer)

Sorry if this is a Honda, but I didn't see it posted yet. Here's a blurb saying how Zorn says Portis is only 50-50 to play this week, and further, talks about problems with his knee. As a Portis owner, this concerns me. I just figured he'd come out raring to go after the bye. I know he is a trooper and has played through injury most of the year, but I'm concerned they sit him a game or two so he can fully heal.

Anyway, here's the blurb.

Redskins | Portis 50-50 for Week 11

Mon, 10 Nov 2008 13:38:57 -0800

Updating a previous report, The Associated Press reports Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn said there is a 50-50 chance RB Clinton Portis (knee) will play in the team's Week 11 game but he hopes Portis will get better. "I'd say there's a 50-50 chance. I'm hoping that he'll be even better than that. Another day of rest, and then we'll see how he comes in on Wednesday. ... We've got to get the pain out of the knee and see how he progresses along," Zorn said.

Ehh... I'm slightly concerned, but it's still only Monday. IMO, Portis does not necessarily NEED to practice. Let him rest some more and we'll see what comes Thurs/Friday.

Zorn: Portis 50-50 for Sunday

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/red...te_1.html#more

Clinton Portis is questionable at this point and his chances of facing Dallas on Sunday are "50-50," Coach Jim Zorn said after practice today. Portis has a knee sprain that has worsened since the team last played Nov. 3.

Zorn remains optimistic that Portis will play, but conceded that "it would be a major issue for all of us," if he cannot. Zorn said that second-string back Ladell Betts may be back from his knee injury for Sunday's game, but that he is not "expecting" that result.

Should the Redskins be without Betts and Portis, Zorn said RB Rock Cartwright would continue to return kicks, but would have some of his other special teams work curtailed given the shortage of available runners. If Betts returns and Portis is out, Zorn said Betts would play ahead of Shaun Alexander, but that it very well could be " a community position."

Jedi Mind Tricks. They are playing Dallas. Portis is gonna play. :wall:
That would be my take as well....when exactly do they claim this flared up?
exactly, and portis hates to practice.specifically, it happened at the end of the pitt game. troy pola**** kept going low all game, and finally got him good in the knee. weird that it got worse as the week went on though.for those of you who believe this. rock cartright would be the sneaky play and not shaun mvp alexander, since shaun sucks.

This has got to be a bad sign. Portis owners can blame me, I just traded for him so of course NOW he'll suck. I guess if he needs another week to get healthy for the FF playoffs I'm all for it.

Well, they're already stating Betts is out for week 11, so I'm not sure exactly where you wanna place him this week. I'd probably suggest anyplace BUT your starting lineup.

If Portis doesn't go, I don't think Cartwright OR Alexander are going to be worth anything more than a desperation start. They'll probably use both, so they'll totally castrate each other's output. (That, and Alexander has just looked like balls in his limited time so far.)

Hadn't heard that yet today - prior to today's news he was "expected" back this week. Now they'll be scrambling if both can't go for sure. Rock C. and SA are not good enough at all.

No, they are not. Though Rock is better than SA. Portis will play though so all of this is moot. This is a *huge* game.

If CP & Betts are out, the money play in PPR leagues will be Cooley. Lots of 3rd and 5 or so in the game....lots of passes to Cooley.

Was thinking the same thing. Even if Portis plays, he may not be 100% and could be in line for a smaller workload than usual.
If this is indeed true, the Redskins will work on a Wildcat formation (something they haven't done yet, but everyone else is, so why not?) this week in practice. ARE will get direct snaps.

Where did you see that Betts was out? I just read the Washington Post this morning and they were saying that it was still up in the air?Man, if Portis and Betts can't go, the Dallas game really worries me. I really do not believe in Shaun Alexander this year from what I've seen of him. I would go with Cartwright over him, honestly. My honest guess is that Portis doesn't want to practice so he's saying "his knee is sore." He has a bit of a history of wanting to get out of practice and then performing well on Sunday. My guess is he goes, but if he doesn't, it's bad news...M

As a Portis owner, I'm hoping that you are correct. As for where I saw that Betts is out, Rotoworld was reporting it with the Post as a source yesterday at around lunchtime. The article they linked to the Washington Post had a quote from Zorn stating something to the effect of "IF Ladell Betts and Portis can't play, blah, blah, blah Alexander/Cartwright, blah....but I don't expect that Betts will be available."

I went and found the pertinent portion of the article I saw yesterday:

"Zorn remains optimistic that Portis will play, but conceded that "it would be a major issue for all of us," if he cannot. Zorn said that second-string back Ladell Betts may be back from his knee injury for Sunday's game, but that he is "not expecting" that result.

If Betts returns and Portis is out, Zorn said Betts would play ahead of Shaun Alexander, but that it very well could be " a community position.""

Full Article here.

That made it sound to me that Betts: A)isn't likely to play(didn't practice yesterday again, FWIW), and B) even if he does, he may be in a full blown timeshare with Alexander(and maybe Cartwright) for this week.

Good info, thanks!M

Radio beat reporter on Redskins Radio says it could be a 2- to 4-week type deal for Portis. He's getting treatment today. Portis comes on local radio at 3pm for his weekly appearance...have to hear what he says then.

Is there a link where we can listen to this radio show on the web?

No link yet, but word out of Washington is that Portis has an MCL sprain. Not great news, but better than an ACL injury.

I know Betts is questionable, & IF Portis IS out - are we looking @ RBBC w/ Betts, SA & Cartwright?

If that's the case it's a crap-shoot w/ none of them having much fantasy value.

Who of them is worth a start?

...expected to be out 2-4 weeks.
I know you said no link yet, but where exactly did you hear this?
It's his MCL (per Redskins message board). Though, I am still holding out to hear from him. He gives a presser at 3pm.
Thanks for the source. Was it on extremeskins? I just found a MB posting on there and it was only said by one person, so I'm not going to take it too seriously. He said his friend "texted him that he's out 2-4 weeks". There are a lot of knuckleheads on MB's who just like to stir stuff up so he could be lying or taking a friends opinion as fact. But I am nervous about this injury. I don't think it's nothing. Listening to Portis now and he hasn't mentioned anything about the 2-4 week thing yet.

Doesn't sound like he's very optimistic. Um, I'd be making other arrangements if you have Portis.
no he doesn't - but he also doesn't sound very concerned that it is a very serious injury either. If I was betting - I'm guessing he sits this weekend and is back next week.

yes, extremeskins.

this is a summary of portis' presser that was posted on extremeskins.

Shooting for playing on Sunday. Want's to help, no hurt the team.

2nd degree sprain, can't straighten it out, just started bending it today.

Rest stiffened it up.

Game time decision on CP and Betts.

If his knee feels good enough to play, he's gonna play.

He wants to be on the field. Preparing himself mentally as if he were playing.

Significant game, wants to separate themselves from Eagles/Cowboys.

Always sombody ready for the opportunity, Rock is ready and has enough heart to carry the team.

Joking about the Raiders paying D. Hall $8M for 8 games.

CP got away during the bye week, watch Alabama/LSU and Texas Tech games.

CP says Texas Tech is the best team in College football.

He thinks they need to work on redzone conversions and limiting turnovers.

He thinks the Rookies, especially Malcolm Kelly, will make a big impact. Devin needs to calm down and play football. Fred is ready but Cooley is Cooley.
