Dan Pompei, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith has contacted former NFL head coach Mike Martz about their vacancy at offensive coordinator, according to a source close to the situation. The two have not had any substantive talks yet.
Great news for Cutler fans, the worst of news for Forte owners

If Martz is the OC, then pass protection is the question. Cutler will get a beating if the 2010 o-line plays like the 2009 o-line. And while the Bears like Hanie, they need to get another QB in, one who has actually played a game in the NFL. However, Angelo has ignored the backup QB position in the past (backing up Grossman with rookie Orton), and he could do so again. As far as Martz goes, he's got to be an upgrade over Turner. And I do like the idea of someone who isn't necessarily associated with Cutler coming in as the OC - gives him a chance to learn from someone else and hopefully Martz will hold him accountable for his play.
he uses TE to max protect. and the only reason az and shaun were ever even a blip in the nfl was because of martz.everyone in chi goes up. olsen goes down.
