Green trade talk surfaces

Published Thu Aug 10 2:49:00 p.m. ET 2006

(Rotoworld) Scout.com reports that William Green has been mentioned in possible trade talks with the Eagles.

Impact: It'd be a decent fit for both sides, with Philadelphia getting a serviceable short-yardage back while Cleveland picked up disgruntled backup center Hank Fraley. The Eagles would probably get a draft pick as well but this is strictly a rumor for now.

I was reading this on the Brows boards. Is there any word out of Philly or is this just wishfull thinking by some Browns fans?

As an eagles fan I would love this. As a Green owner I would also love this.
Awsome! as a Browns fan I would love this too. Let me give Randy Lerner a call and get this done.I'm gona guess if they are talking about this both teams will want to see their guys in action tonight so expect to see Green on the field quite a bit.

exactly what is the point to this trade?

Fraley is disgruntled at being no2 on the depth chart. He would start this year for the Browns and then be disgruntled again when Bentley comes back.

Would Savage and Co. make such a deal only for one year? I just don't see it.

And I'm a Browns fan.

Don't know anything about Fraley, but considering that the Browns aren't exactly loaded on the O-line, maybe they could move Fraley to guard or tackle when Bentley returns. As far as giving up Green, it's a shame that yet another 1st rounder falls by the wayside, but even had they taken Duckett, the outcome likely would have been the same.

Savage has been trying to ship out Green since he got to Cleveland. Fraley is in the last year of his contract and I'm sure the Eagles would like to get something for him this year instead of letting him walk and they would get a good backup to Westbrook and maybe a goalline/short yardage guy also.I see your piont about the Browns not wanting a one year player but I think that's not necessarily the case here. Bentley can also play guard and is better than Coleman or Andruzi. If Fraley works out the Browns could resign him (or make a contract offer this year). 2007 Bentley moves to guard, Freley starts at center and Coleman and Andruzi fight it out for the other guard spot. The Browns need depth on the oline bad.

Nice info on Fraley:

Seems like he may be worth more than a Willie Green.

As a Browns fan I would love the move... even if we still don't go 8-8 this year, we NEED a decent center in order to allow Frye to progress in any fashion. Not having a viable center means that Frye might as well be written off and then next year we'll be heading into a situation with a great center and a shell-shocked QB.

The depth part I understand and agree with. I just don't see this trade coming to fruition. Green was seen as the best backup to Droughns last year, and I don't think Savage was trying to run him out of town. He did try to accomodate Green's trade request, but there were no offers. Instead Green became the #2 behind Droughns and was decent. Green has had a good TC so far, with no talk of being traded (or at least that I've heard/read). Meanwhile Suggs is now wanting out of Cleveland. I've read Savage is trying to accomodate this request, but haven't heard anything about this yet. Who knows....maybe it will work. I just don't see it happening.

Modified for my own selfish purposes.

Wasn't Suggs also mentioned to be going to PHI?

There were a lot of pre-draft talks between PHI/CLE regarding a flip-flop in the first round since PHI thought BAL was going after Bunkley.

It sounds like there is sure to be some motion one way or another soon.....

I do see your piont, I would rather give up Suggs than Green. Green has 2 strikes in the substance program though so I think he's been a hard sell to other teams but the Browns have to move someone out before the season. Droughns, Suggs, Green, Harrison, Vickers and T smith. Someone will be gone before september, might as well get something why they can.

I was going to say the same thing, and then I realized I'm a Suggs owner. :bag: I guess I love it although in all likelihood I'm an uninterested observer in denial.
As a Suggs owner I don't love this trade. As a Suggs owner I hope it is Suggs who is traded or cut, so that he can go to the Jets or the Texans and be the starter.

Well I believe Fraley is in the last year of his deal.

The Browns never deserved a player of William Green's caliber. Mr. Green is a workhorse; he lifted the Browns and put the team on his shoulders his rookie season and carried them to the playoffs. Mr. Green deserves a fresh start with a team that won't be afraid to utilize his superior skills to their maximum capability. Please trade him.

You damn right, here I go! I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired of watching Mr. Green underutilized by coaches who don't know a thing about the NFL. Mr. Green could be the league MVP, yes he's that good, if only his skills were properly utilized.

I do believe that this schtick even predates LHUCKS' Pac-10 routine. :D Proof! :lmao:

seriously though, about a month ago i used a late round rookie selection to pick up Green in one of my dynasty leagues.

check your waiver wires, he could still be out there.

Get with the program and feel the love. As someone who just likes to say it...

I WOULD LOVE THIS!

Out of all the trades of heard this year this one makes the most sense. Sounds like it would be good for both teams. Jets REALLY need a RB but most of the crap floating around are rumors at best. Every team is "interested" in other players. SHEESH.

i'm feeling a lot of love in this thread.

at least it'll give the announcers something to talk about during the game tonigh.

Hate to do it, but I agree that Green has not been used to his full potential. I also agree that he was the one who carried them to the playoffs. After that though the agreement ends, as Green will never be a star. But I do think he could be a very good RB. I would like to see this trade as I think it would benefit both teams. Scary would be sending Green to meet up with his former teammates in Denver.

I'll admit this shtick used to be funny -- now it's kinda like the class clown who's become the town bum 10 years later...

I think Green's main problems are that he likes to stutter step before he hits the hole and has issues finding the hole. Suggs behind the same line had a string of 7 nice games at the end of the year and looked much better than Green.Once he gets through the dude has a mean stiff arm and is hard to bring down. I think he's a weak nfl #1 back but a great guy to have as a backup. If he could just learn to hit the hole more decisively he could become an ok starting back.

I agree, but he brought it all on himself by getting into trouble in 2003 just when he started looking like a star. I did draft him in a dynasty this year in the hopes that he would get traded, but I ended up dropping him since I really don't see him doing much in a PPR league even if he's a starter. He's still young at 26 and he does have some ability, but I still have a lot of questions when his team signed a free agent who he couldn't beat out. I'll also think Suggs is a better RB when he's healthy and I think if the Browns do trade Green it's really because he's the 3rd best RB on the team (maybe even 4th since Harrison will be the 3rd down back).

Isn't Green in the last year of his rookie deal???Isn't Fraley in the last year of his deal??It seems like a one year fix for both if its done.

I'd hate to get this thread back on topic or anything, but has anyone else (besides the original poster) heard this rumor or confirmed that the Eagles are interested?

For the record, I'm a jittery Westbrook owner... :banned:

I wouldn't be worried. Seems like this might speak more to the condition of Buckhalter than anything. They don't really have a short yardage back.

And don't forget that Perry got carted off the field during the HoF game.
