Post IDP Scoring Systems Here! (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I've played in an IDP league for three years now, and another that I'm in just switched from team defense/st to IDP. The league voted in this scoring system:

Tackle - 2 pts

Assist - 1 pt

INT/Sack/Fum Rec - 3 pts each

I knew this would rocket the value of LB's with the 2 pts per tackle, and drafted accordingly. We start 2 LB's, 2 DL and 2 DB and in round 5 & 6 I drafted D.Ryans and K.Bulluck. After week 1, at least half of the league is complaining that the scoring system is too high - which I told them it would be when we discussed it. The other league I've been in for a few years scores tackles as a point, assists as a half point and Int/Sack/Forced Fum/Fum Rec as three points each.

My question to you guys is this: Has anyone found a scoring system that your owners all agree on? I know it all depends on how much importance you want to put on IDP's, and the system in my other league seems to work ok. I just wanted a few more perspectives.....thanks guys!

Start 2DL, 3LB, 2DB

Defensive Tackle

Each defensive tackle will be worth 1 point.

Defensive Assisted Tackle

Each defensive assisted tackle will be worth 1/2 of a point.

Defensive Sack

Each defensive sack will be worth 2 points.

Defensive Pass Defense

Each defensive pass defense will be worth 2 points.

Defensive Interception

Each defensive interception will be worth 4 points.

Defensive Forced Fumble

Each defensive forced fumble will be worth 3 points.

Fumble Recovery

Each fumble recovery will be worth 1 point.

Defensive Safety

Each defensive safety will be worth 4 points.

Defensive Touchdown

Each defensive touchdown will be worth 6 points.

This is the key. You have to decide very early how much value you want an IDP to have relative to an offensive player, what type of IDP you want valued (big play or tackle heavy) and how deep you want your IDP lineup/roster to be.There is no right answer here. But those decisions have to be made before the scores roll in.

Here is ours -

UT = 1 point

AT = 1/2 pt (only DL are eligible for AT, no AT points for LB or DB)

Sack = 2 points for each of the first 2 in a game (each addl sack is worth 3)

1/2 sack = 1 point

safety = 2

td = 6

int = 2

We start 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DB and one rover (any def pos). We did this to ensure the same # of off and def starters.

This scoring system works well for td heavy offensive scoring with some yardage bonuses. If you play in a league that is more geared toward yardage, these rules would seriously undermine the value of IDP players.

I'm interested to see how this works. What is the scoring ratio for OFF/DEF? We start 11 IDPs and 7 Off(-K) with the scoring I have above. Offense still outscored IDP by 1.5-1. Some were even closer to the 2-1 range. Also, you said this is an TD heavy league, what is the offense scoring?

Ours is way big play heavy

Start 2 DL, 2LB, 2 DB

Tackle/Assist 2pts

INT 10pts

Sack 10pts

FF 5 pts

Fumble recovery 10pts

Pass def 5pts

TD 10pts

It ends up where the IDP score similar to the offense in our system especially the top end guys.

I am not a fan of big play leagues. I am in leagues where scoring is different for IDPs based on the position they play. I prefer offenses to outscore IDPs by close to the 1.5 to 1 ratio someone listed...ONLY if we start 11 IDPs. I think the balance works out well as far as total scoring of each group.

Every league I have played in has different scoring.

Tackle heavy.

Start: 3-4 or 4-3 DL & LB, 2 CB, 2 S (11 IDP / 7 Offense).

2.0 = tackle, sack, int, FF, FR

1.5 = PD

1.0 = assist

6.0 = TD

Last season final top 20 = 6 RB, 6 QB, 7 LB

2007 1st week top 20 = 1 RB, 6 QB, 4 WR, 2 TE, 5 LB, 1 DE, 1 S

16 team. Start 10 IDP total.

1DE

1DT

1DL

1OLB

1M/ILB

1LB

1CB

1S

1DB

1 flex.

0.5 tackle

0.5 assist

3.0 sack

1.0 half sack

3.0 int

4.0 td

0.5 pass def

0.5 fumble f/r

1.0 safety

*note- if its 12 team, add an 11th defender

Start 3 IDP (any DL, LB or DB). Scoring is as follows:

1pt solo tackle

0.5pt assisted tackle

4pts sack

4pts int

4pts fumble recovery

2pts forced fumble

1pt pass defensed

6pts TD

2pts safety

The three IDP spots go along with 8 offensive spots (QB, RB, WR, TE, K, WR/TE flex, WR/RB/TE flex x 2) in which their scoring is pretty close to conventional, except 6pts for passing TDs instead of 4. With this scoring, an outstanding day is 18-20pts, a great day is 12-17pts, a good day is 8-11pts, a mediocre day is 5-7pts and anything less is a bad day. Good or better days by all three can really make up for a poor showing or two by the offensive guys, but usually the offensive guys carry the day scoring-wise. Every now and then a guy will put up a HOF day like Ronde Barber's 30pt day last year when he returned two picks for TDs vs. the Eagles. The best picks for consistent scoring are MLBs/ILBs who also can rush the passer. The next best picks are pass-rushing OLBs, stay-at-home MLBs and tackling machine safeties. Sack machine DEs are feast-or-famine each week, and cornerbacks are a bad bet (yet some of the guys still play them - one guy started Barber that day). DTs are almost useless.

ETA: Top-end IDPs in this year's (re)draft started going off the board in round 6 (Bulluck, Thomas, Merriman).

QB = 6 PT TD250 YDS PASS = 3 PTS, 1 PT EACH ADDITIONAL 25-1 PER INTRB/WR = 6 PT TD85 COMBINED YDS = 1 PT100 COMBINED YDS = +2EACH ADDL 15 YDS = +1RCPT = .5STD KICKER SCORING 0-39 = 3, 40-49 = 4, ETC.qb, 2 rb, 3 wr(tes count as wr), k, 2 dl, 2 lb, 2 db. 1 def flexAverage score over the last 5 years is somewhere around 80 points. For good idps, the average is 35 pts. Most peopel get 25-30 pts from their idps each week.

IDPs:

2 pt Solos, 1 pt assist, 3 pt Sack (.2 per sack yd) w/ an additional 2 pt on the 2nd,

4 pt INT (.05 per return yd) w/ an additional 2 pt on the 2nd,

3 pt Force Fumble w/ an additional 2 pt on the 2nd,

3 pt Fumble Recovery (.05 per return yd) w/ an additional 2 pt on the 2nd,

3 pt Saftey, 3 Blk Kick

All TDs = 6 pts

Bonus

DL additional 3 pts on the 4th solo and each solo is worth 2.5 afterwards, extra 1 pt on the 4th assist

LB/DB additional 3 pts on the 6th solo and each solo is worth 2.5 afterwards, extra 1 pt on the 6th assist

10 team keeper. Year 20.

We start 11 on offense and 11 on defense. We try to keep the scoring balanced. Our offenses score almost the same as the defenses.

2 QB-1pt/50 yd, 6 pt/TD

4 RB - 1 pt/25 yd, .25/rec, 6 pt/TD

4 WR - 1 pt/20 yd, .25/rec, 6 pt/TD

1 K - 3 pt for <50 yd FG, 6 pt for >50 yd FG, 1 pt/xp

All IDP's score the same way:

1pt/tackle, .5 pt/asst, 3 pt/sack, 2 pt/FF, 4 pt/FR, 4 pt/INT, 2 pt/Safety, 6 pt/TD

4 DB

4 LB

3 DL

We used to split DL to 2 DE and 1 DT but changed just to simplify.

We used to split DB to 2 CB and 2 S but changed to simplify.

Our team scoring ranges from 100-230 total points. Averages range from 65 - 90 on each side per team.

A good DL is as valuable as a good WR.

A good LB is as valuable as a good QB.

A good DB is almost as valuable as a good RB(RB's are still king!).

Haven't played IDP yet, but interested. If you switch from DST to IDP, what happens to kick and punt returns for TDs? Do you draft return guys?

Thanks

All leagues I've been award points to players for return TDs. Some leagues draft special teams only (and offensive lines) in groups. Some leagues give points for return yards. You can choose to do it however you like, then strategize appropriately. There really is no "standard" IDP league system.

For our scoring, everything is tied to the player. Whether an offensive or defensive player, he accumulates stats and scores based on his position. All players score for return yardage and TD's, although it is almost always DB's, RB's and WR's doing the returns. HTH.

Solo 2 pts

Assisted 1 pt

PD 3.5 pts

Sack 6 Pts

Interception 9.5 pts

forced fumble 4 pts

fumble recovered 4 pts

yardage on interceptions/fumble returns 1 pt for every 10 yards

7 pts for defensive touchdown

12 pts blocked punt/FG

15 pts safety

what is the FBG default scoring system...?for IDP only.thanks!
* 1.5 points per solo tackle, .75 points per assisted tackle, 4 points per sack * 4 points per forced fumble, 4 points per fumble recovery * 5 points per interception, 1.5 points per pass defensed * 6 points per touchdown, 2 points per safety

Would you call the FBG scoring system "tackle heavy" or "tackle neutral"?
I haven't played with the numbers in awhile, but if I'm remembering correctly it takes a sack-to-tackle ratio of around 3.5-4:1 to push the Wares and Merrimans of the world consistently above the Bracketts and Lenons in the final rank lists. I don't think there's any industry wide standard, but I'd consider 3:1 or less tackle heavy and 4:1 or higher big play heavy. Using that criteria, the FBG default is tackle heavy.

Ours is tackle heavy and points fly around at all positions.

We start 2 DL, 2 LB & 2 DB. Scoring is the same for all positions:

solo - 2.5 pts

asst - 2.0 pts

sack - 3.0 pts

int - 3.0 pts

ff - 3.0 pts

fr - 3.0 pts

int ret yds - .2 pts/yd (I am proposing we drop this to .1/yd)

kick ret yds - .1 pts/yd

The only complaint anyone had was mine about the INT return yards being ridiculously high. I think they are fine and help with DB scoring, but they need to be backed down a little. Outside of that, I love our entire format and it made for some very consistant scoring among LB's and they were comparable to the top offensive positions in total points scored.
