Post Your "Upside Down" Draft Results (1 Viewer)

Title says it all.

Post your draft results if you went the non-traditional route this year.

No RBs allowed in the first 3 rounds.

List your scoring and number of teams in the league. Also where you drafted from.

Drew the 12 slot in the FPC Red vs Blue draft on Aug 5th (12 team league) - took my 1st RB at pick 60 so I basically waited until round 6 (as I could have drafted Rivers in the 5th), my 2nd RB at pick 84. Too bad for me Ryan Williams was a blown pick the price of drafting early but hey on the flip side the benifit of drafting early I got Ingram at the 5/6 turn and Wells in round 7 both are going much higher now.

Scoring is PPR with 1.5 for TE, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex

12 Nicks

13 Fitzgerald

36 M-Williams TB

37 V-Davis

60 Ingram

61 Rivers

84 Wells

85 Ryan Williams

108 Hernandez

109 Starks

132 M-Williams Sea

157 A-Roberts

180 Snelling

181 Hankerson

I've always wanted to try it, but too much of a chicken to do it in my main money league, there's just something so cozy about taking a stud rb early, so when a co-worker invited me to their 10 team league for cheap, I jumped all over it.

Drafted from the 6th position. 1qb/2rb/3wr/1te/1pk/1def 15 rounds, 1pt ppr, and 4pt passing td.

1.6 Andre Johnson

2.5 Roddy White

3.6 Miles Austin

4.5 Tony Romo

5.6 Jason Witten

6.5 DeAngelo Williams

7.6 Tim Hightower

8.5 Marshawn Lynch

9.6 Joseph Addai

10.5 Jacoby Ford

11.6 Josh Freeman

12.5 CJ Spiller

13.6 Steve Breaston

14.5 Nate Kaeding

15.6 Detroit Defense

All in all I was pretty happy with my team. It worked almost perfectly as the rbs I was targeting just seemed to stay on the board while everyone who took 3 rbs in the first 5 rounds were scrambling for their wrs/tes.

I'm feeling pretty good at this point.

I've always like a solid starter at QB so I took Romo right after Manning was picked the pick before me. Probably could have waited and picked someone in a later round, but I wanted what I consider a top 5 QB. My internet timed out and Steve Smith was autopicked. This team is going to need a lot of help at RB, luckily Ryan Williams already kind of helped out a bit.Our bench is tiny. So bye weeks should be interesting.

That's a pretty nice squad. Have to wonder a bit what qbs went in the 9th and 10th but I guess Cassel should be serviceable. Might have liked this more with a late mccoy/newton/orton over say gibson

12.06 was a wasted pick because Gates has a week 6 bye, Cundiff week 5, and then CHI is week 8. So I'll prob drop him and grab Tynes off the WW and then drop Tynes for whatever is avail the fol weeks for TE & DST Byes.

ETA: Felix Jones went at 2.05, then there was another run on RB's in the early 3rd

For a 16 team league that's a solid squad.

14 team keeper league (1 keeper first round) 6 pt all TDs 1 PPR, 1 pt/ 10 passing and receiving, 1 pt/20 passing yards, 5 pt bonus @ 100 yards rushing/receiving and 300 yards passing.

drafting at the 7th spot, in a snake, Most of the top 10 RBs kept, plus top3 receivers and 1 QB.

12 team, I picked 10th. QB/WR/WR/RB/RB/Flex/K/DST. All TDs 6 pts, 1 pt for 10 yd rush/10 rec/25 pass. No PPR

Everyone in my league goes QB nuts early, and takes backups early as well. I've been burned by trying to play QB matchup the past 2 years, and had decided pre-draft I was going to grab a stud and not worry about the position for this year.

1.10 Calvin Johnson (Det - WR)

2.03 Roddy White (Atl - WR)

3.10 Phillip Rivers (SD - QB)

4.03 LeGarrette Blount (TB - RB)

5.10 Jason Witten (Dal - TE)

6.03 Mark Ingram (NO - RB)

7.10 Fred Jackson (Buf - RB)

8.03 Tim Hightower (Was - RB)

9.10 Joe Flacco (Bal - QB)

10.03 Plaxico Burress (NYJ - WR)

11.10 Willis McGehee (Den - RB)

12.03 Philadelphia (Phi - DEF)

13.10 Emmanuel Sanders (Pit - WR)

14.03 Greg Olsen (Car - TE)

15.10 Matt Bryant (Atl - K)

Overall I'm pretty happy with the draft. I'll probably use Jackson or Hightower as my flex, unless Ingram doesn't pan out like I'm hoping. I'm not stoked with my WR depth beyond Mega and Roddy, hopefully I can find some decent waiver wire depth as the season progresses.

Used this strategy the other day in a FPC draft. 12 team PPR:

QB- Freeman (10), Newton (15)

WR- Roddy White (1), Calvin Johnson (2), Holmes (3), Harvin (5), Evans (12), Gibson (14), Avery (17)

This is EXACTLY what I was trying to do with my RB's with a similar strategy. 12-team / 1 PPR. Was targeting Ingram in the 4th and Wells in the 5th, but missed Ingram by 2 picks in the 5th and Wells 6 picks in the 6th. I went with Peyton instead (before the reports of the Collins signing). Here are my results:1.05 Andre Johnson2.08 Greg Jennings (targeted Nicks and missed by 2 picks)3.05 Brandon Marshall4.08 Ryan Mathews5.05 Peyton Manning (targeted Mark Ingram... :sigh:)6.08 Pierre Garcon (targeted Beanie Wells)7.05 CJ Spiller8.08 Sidney Rice9.05 Roy Helu (eck.. reach.. wanted Starks & missed by 2 picks. ** Notes:

Our keeper selection deadline was prior to Kerry Collins signing, when I was still optimistic Peyton Manning would play Week 1. In light of recent news, I felt pressure to go QB2 earlier than I normally would have. Stafford might have been a slight reach, but I feel good about it.

When I took VJax in third keeper round, I passed on Matt Forte and Michael Vick.

I'm not very excited about my TE position. Interestingly, the fifth rounder I traded away (5.09) was used on Jermichael Finley, so I could have had Finley to complete a "textbook" upside-down draft.

I'm DELIGHTED that Ingram fell to me in the sixth round. Proof to me that upside-down approach has merit this season.

Overall, my team looks pretty mediocre. I feel I was hamstrung out of the blocks by my decision to keep Manning. What can I say, Manning is the face of my team, and has led me to multiple marvelous Monday Night Football comebacks over the years. I am emotionally attached at some level.

I'm thinking six to eight wins, either miss or exit early from playoffs. Hopefully, I will look back at 2011 as the season I locked up budding star in Mark Ingram.

Notes:

[*]Strongest WR core out of everyone. With our Flex, I can slot in 4 WR or 3 WR and 2 TE with only 1 RB

[*]I could have snagged one at 6.11 instead of my backup QB, but to be honest, while I like the upside of Stafford, I felt like I needed a security blanket and I believe Bradford was best available after Stafford. In addition, I saw Cedric Benson, R. Bush, and Tolbert still out there. Based on DD, I figured one would fall to me... and both Bush and Tolbert did.

[*]The RBs went extremely fast and early which surprised me given the scoring rules. So while folks were jumping on RBs, I continued to snag WR. While I like Reggie for the PPR points, his showing in preseason has left me pretty concerned. I felt better after getting Tolbert in the following round, which I hope is a 60/40 split in SD. If that's the case then I should be fine.

[*]Ringer was a flyer pick if CJ doesn't show. Figured at 10th round, what the heck.

6.6 - Freeman (best available were eli, flacco, cutler and i figured one of those would fall to next round)

7.7 - bradford (all previously mentioned taken)

10.6 - Gonzalez (hated this pick)

11.7 - bolts D

12.6 - gostowski

Looking back I should have gone brady instead of V jax and could have gone L moore and floyd instead of running on three qbs in a row. Oh well.

Pretty casual 10 team league that I enjoy as a break from my more seriously competitive leagues

I end up getting an autodraft at the turn for the Johnsons at 1 & 2 so at that point adapted to how things were unfolding and ended up going upside down...

Notes

At the 3/4 turn I had the luxury of having Bradshaw, Best & Jones available, so I went with Marshall at 3.

We are a QB heavy league (6 pt TD), with 7 QB's gone before I picked in round 3. Ryan Schaub and Roethlisberger all went before I picked in 5th round (targeted Roethlisberger), so I had to take Stafford in round 6, as he probably wouldn't make it back to me.

Wanted top tier TE in round 5, but last one to go was Clark at 5.8 (except V Davis, but I'm not sold on him this year.

Good value in 7 & 8 with Jackson & Lynch, to overcome my worry about Moreno, but at least I got Mcgahee as insurance.

Overall pretty happy, but a little thin in WR depth, although starting 3 WR squad of CJ, Fitz and Marshall looks pretty good!

BTW - Ingram went at 3.6!

I definately think this is the way to go out of the latter positions this year.

Not sure how I feel about this team. Wishing I would have passed on Vick at #2 and went Roddy White and picked up a QB later. Would have been really scary receiving group with AJ, R White and Jennings but being non-PPR made me look for a different position. But with passing TD's being worth 4 and rushing TD's 6...decided to go with Vick. Team could be a contender if Vick performs and I'm able to salvage a WR #3 somehow. The nice thing about this strategy is that you can get great players... my rankings have AJ #2 WR and , Vick #1 QB, Finley #2 TE. Good way to build a competitive team if picking late.

Standard scoring with 6 PT passing tds. +3 for 100 yards rush/rec and +3 for 300 yards passing.

I know ill get a lot of flack for having so many running backs rostered. The flack is probably deserved but I think I'll be able to take some flyers on some WRs when everything shakes out.

1QB,2WR,2RB,1TE,1FLEX,1PK,1DT. 6 per passing TD, 1PPR, milestone bonuses for RB/WR/TE at 100 and QB at 300. More bonuses at 150/375. Picking 11th of 12 in a 15 round draft (shallow bench). Roeths went before my pick and the 3.12 owner had a QB and needed a RB so I went RB before QB. In hindsight I should have taken Gates at 3.11 and just gone with Stafford and another QB late. Felix went early 3rd. The Vernon Davis pick could have been my RB2 although I project as the top team either way.

May start another thread about why I picked AJ #1, but for now I will post my results from the "upside" down draft with a couple comments.

12 Team PPR Redraft. Start QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, K and DEF. Flex RB/WR/TE. Drafted #1 in a $100 bottle of wine league.

1.01 A Johnson

2.12 Wallace

3.01 VJax

4.12 Finley

5.01 Ingram

6.12 R Bush

7.01 Roth

8.12 Ford

9.01 P Thomas

10.12 D Moore

11.01 J Starks

12.12 A Roberts

13.01 A Hernandez

14.12 B Scott

15.01 Gostkowski

16.12 ATL DEF

Thoughts: Could not make any trades. Went AJ over Rice, ADP and Foster. Rice has two tough match ups in the first 4 weeks and a Bye Week 5, so a bad start. Foster has a slight hammy thing or I would have taken him. ADP was my 2nd choice, but has a poor OL. Wallace and VJax were my last two WR on the 2nd Tier. Only RB that I considered were S Jax, Bradshaw or Best. Thought I would get a decent RB or two on the 4.12 and 5.01. Got Finley and Ingram (thought of Matthews, who almost made it back o me at 6.12). Took R Bush and Roth in the 6th and 7th and now had my starting 7. Filled out the rest of my roster with a pair of OAK WRs, Ingram's handcuff and some upside gambles (love flexing Hernandez). Have Bye Week issues in Week 11, but by then I should know if this is a playoff team or not.

Wanted to show the Shark Pool what kind of team is possible if you Upside Down with an early pick... hadn't seen it in this thread.

General thoughts - this is a league with a mix of guys who know what they're doing and some who are not quite as informed. Drafting out of the12 spot, I figured I'd have a great shot at a pair of top WRs and that's what happened. There was a pretty strong RB run but the QB run in the 1st two rounds - 6 in two rounds. Two in the first (Vick/Rodgers). Some of the league will fill out a starting roster before depth so there were kickers and Team Ds taken early (round 9) and a team D run in 7/8. Pleanty of value across the board but looking back, I'd have ignored a second QB in favor of more depth. It's not like one of the scraps wouldn't be there for Big ben's bye week. So Campbell may go buh bye when waivers open in favor of a few other nuggets sitting on the waiver wire.

The TENN Rbs may be a waste if Johnson shows up - then again, so many players get hurt after missing training camp that it might be a worthy investment and the benches are SO deep as to make it a low risk.

Wonderful team...you acquired just about every upside RB that I target and ended up with Big Ben and Gates...nasty

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how this draft turned out. The only pick I second guessed at the time was Steve Smith (car) at 9.01, but being able to get Nelson four rounds later eliminated that worry. Seattle offense is scaring me so far in the preseason, so I'm slightly worried about how Lynch will fare, but feel that Addai should be able to hold down RB2 until the bye weeks begin, when I'll have a better idea of what to expect from Marshawn. Health of the RB crew will be a concern-- if the main three stay healthy, I really like my chances this year. Obviously, the WRs are going to carry me and I will likely be starting 4 wide every week. I also feel my TEs will be stronger than most. I think Rothlisberger will be fantastic this year, with a great schedule for him and the Steelers. He should be able to have me middle of the pack in total QB scoring if he remains healthy. The heavy WR strategy is one that I am pretty familiar with and generally works to what I feel is my stronger points-- finding startable quality RBs to suppliment the rest of my lineup.

10 team local league, not a lot of sharks so I decided would be the perfect time to try it.

10 team PPR 1qb, 2rb, 3wr, 1te, 2rb/wr flex IDP league. PPR

1.10 Roddy White

2.01 Hakeem Nicks

3.10 Santonio Holmes

4.01 Peyton Hillis

5.10 Jahvid Best

6.01 Brandon Lloyd

7.10 Peyton Manning

8.01 Ryan Matthews

9.10 Ben Roethlesberger

10.01 Marshawn Lynch

I was able to wait until the 16th and 17th rounds to grab my TEs (Daniels and Gronkowski). The results are somewhat skewed because it is a high scoring IDP league so IDP players were flying off the board early and often.

Had an auction draft where I wanted to do this type of strategy. $200 cap, 10 teams, 17 roster spots. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, flex (RB/WR/TE). .5 ppr RB, .75 WR, 1 ppr TE.

Vick ($32)

Calvin Johnson ($40)

Brandon Marshall ($23)

JerMichael Finley ($18)

Wes Welker ($17)

Gore ($28)

FJackson ($10)

Grant ($10)

McGahee ($2)

Owen Daniels ($9)

Burleson ($4)

Meachem ($1)

Spiller ($4)

Starting Lineup:

Vick

Gore/best matchup of FJackson/Grant/McGahee

Calvin/Marshall/Welker

Finley

Flex: Daniels

Once I landed Vick I didn't think I'd be able to get a top TE, but just worked out that way. Marshall and Welker aren't your traditional WR1 top flight guys, but in a 3 WR ppr I'll take my 3 against anyone else in the league, especially with Gore and Finley also as starters.

Dynasty, so not necessarily a "win now" team, though if my RBs get hot, who knows:

12 Teams ---- Start 1QB 2RB 2WR 2 WR/RB/TE 1TE 1DEF ---- Standard PPR scoring

Started with the 8th pick

8 Calvin Johnson

17 Greg Jennings

32 Miles Austin

41 LaGarrette Blount

56 Sam Bradford

65 Tony Romo

80 Anquan Boldin

89 Chris Wells

104 Brandon Pettigrew

113 Demarco Murray

128 Jerome Simpson

137 Bilal Powell

152 Torrey Smith

161 Kellen Winslow

176 Jake Locker

185 Lance Kendricks

200 Donnie Avery

209 Louis Murphy

224 Austin Pettis

233 Darrius Heyward-Bey

248 Devin Hester

257 Detroit Def

272 Ben Watson

So my "core" is:

QB Romo, Bradford

RB Blount, Wells

WR CJ, Jennings, Austin

I think I could have done better in the middle rounds, especially where I took two QBs that early. I intended to move Romo, and still do eventually, but I haven't gotten enough interest yet. I'm sure when someone's QB goes down or underperforms, the offers will roll in. This league pairs with a developmental league of college players that I can inherit to my NFL team, so I've got guys like Knile Davis, Chris Polk, James White, Ed Wesley, and Lache Seastrunk locked down if and when they go pro, so hopefully my RB situation improves.

Another upside down dynasty draft:

QB: Matt Ryan (5.05)

RB: Brandon Jacobs (10.06)

RB: Thomas Jones (21.05)

WR: Larry Fitzgerald (2.04)

WR: Mike Williams - TB (2.10)

TE: Jermaine Gresham (5.09)

R/W: Percy Harvin (3.05)

R/W/T: Dwayne Bowe (3.10)

DST: Detroit Lions (13.05)

BENCH:

1. QB Sam Bradford (4.11)

2. Rob Gronkowski (9.05)

3. Cam Newton (10.11)

4. Steve Smith CAR (11.05)

5. Philadelphia Eagles (12.10)
