Potential points leagues, no starting lineups (1 Viewer)

The longer I do FF, the more annoying I find setting starting lineups. Once the season starts, by far the largest amount of my time is spent tracking down tidbits on who is starting or getting benched, who is injured and who practiced. And even when you do your homework, I don't think there is anything more frustrating in this game than having on your bench the player who went off.

Potential point leagues seem like an awfully big jump, but I've been finding myself thinking about it as an option more and more. It would hurt me as an owner more than it would help, as the only leagues I'm not annually near the top in Efficiency it is because I have an extreme amount of depth, but sometimes I find myself wondering if it wouldn't be worth it just to not have to spend so much time on this hobby. (Yes, I know that's sacrilege.)

So, does anyone use potential points for your normal leagues? I've only done it in Survivor leagues where it makes good sense since people don't want to spend as much time on them as a regular league. How's it worked out for you if you have used it?

Are there websites that score this where you don't have to make a bunch of retro changes?

In a way, I think there's more strategy to your roster b/c you have to really think about every slot.

At the same time, easier for a lesser team to get an upset.

Sorry not to be helping you out on this... but wouldn't having depth at many positions help you in potential point league? (I'm guesssing that you mean, for example, gettting the score of your 2 best RBs on that weekend - whoever they are on your roster)

Yes, MFL supports potential points. That's where the staffers and message board posters who were in Survivor II a few years back are continuing the league, and we use potential points.I'm really not sure how it would shake out in who it helped. Looking at some of my leagues, I'd say the owners who put less time into it would be helped the most because they seem to have the lowest efficiencies. But then again, some of my leagues have top teams with low efficiencies because they have a lot of good players. As an extreme example, in my dynasty league I have Dunn, T. Jones, FWP, Chester Taylor, and Gore. Odds are a lot worse for me to pick my best 2 than it is the guy who only has 2 guys amongst the top 24 RB, so it would favor me in that respect more.

Yes, by potential points it means you get your perfect lineup every week after results are known. There's two factors at work... one is that teams with more quality depth will be helped. But at the same time, owners who are lousy at picking starting lineups will be helped. So having 5 decent WRs might work as well as having 3 pretty good WRs and then 2 WRs who are total crap.

In my dynasty league, my bench outscores the league average bench by 50%, and it would help me more than it would help other people. But in my keeper league, the bottom teams who are most all weak in Efficiency would all be helped more than the top teams... we'd gain about 150 points on average while the bottom teams would gain about 200.

So who it helped would depend on multiple factors. But, it's also true that it's the same for everyone so it's fair in that respect. I'm more focusing on whether it takes too much away from the game to go with potential points. I wouldn't mind seeing some of my time I spend on FF free up, but would that take too much away from the fun?

I can surely understand your point of view... my bench outscored my starting lineup (and his starting lineup) in the semis last year in my big money [DYNASTY] league...I would guess that if you're looking to free up some time - it's definitely a way to go... as most of my time during the week is spent looking at matchups (WRs-CBs) / past history / schemes / weather reports / etc. in order to figure out if there is a way to make sure I get the ultimate lineup in my different leagues...

But at the same time - I'm certain you would regret it when you would see that if your league has big rosters (i.e. no interesting WW pickups) - there would not be anything for you to do during the week - and then only be frustrated even more when you would see your opponent 5th WR playing his only tremendous game against you...

I simply love it when I insert Mason in this week and bench Plax... McNair/Mason going back to Tenn / Plax yapping at the Bears secondary / weather in Ny compared to Nashville... unfortunately, it works both ways...
