Just checking, but isnt the point of this thread to talk about what the league will do?? Not what you think they SHOULD do??
Strangely, I think Peterson gets less of a punishment than Rice. I am gonna say he gets the 6 games, and that this week does NOT count towards that, so 7 games total.
One other thing to keep in mind is that thusfar reactions from other NFL players have not been overly negative. And the NFLPA is made of ex-players, older players specifically that probably have more exposure to "old school" discipline. It is likely the NFLPA will focus on an official line of rehabilitation vs. punishment in this case.
Again, Goodell has a tricky situation here with the union and the actual court of law. I think the only way he can suspend AP THIS SEASON is via the generic personal conduct policy similar to big ben's suspension. Thusfar that has been the only incidence of where a suspension preceded the conclusion of legal proceedings. However judging by the idleness in respective to McDonald and Hardy, I don't see it. I also think the prosecution's legal case is borked due to all the leaked information. AP will likely plead to a misdemeanor sometime in the offseason.
The most likely reason to miss games this season will come from the Vikings themselves. Again, I also think the Vikings will take the official stance of rehabilitation vs. punishment. My guess is they give him an "extended leave for personal reasons" from the team. (similar to Aldon Smith last season though probably for a longer duration) They will also likely issue a statement similar to the following:
"The Minnesota vikings deeply regret the actions of Adrian and the injuries to his son... However we consider the viking organization to be a family and it would we believe in standing by him during a time of hardship as he rehabilitates from deeply rooted and enculturation that are no longer socially acceptable. We believe that family comes first, and therefore Adrian will be on indefinite leave to rebuild his relationship with his children and family."
The longest the team can technically suspend AP I believe is 4 weeks. I'm currently expecting him to miss about a month with a possible suspension next season from the NFL (though I don't think this is likely this season or next)
