Priest Holmes updates (1 Viewer)

(Rotoworld) Priest Holmes (neck) has reportedly reiterated his desire to play this season, according to Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson.

Impact: Holmes, currently on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform list, will see a neurosurgeon this week. Depending on when or if he's able to return to practice, the Chiefs have until Week 12 to make a final decision. Peterson plans to announce the team's plans for Priest by the end of this week.

(KFFL) Elizabeth Merrill, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Priest Holmes (head, neck) is scheduled to visit a neurosurgeon in Miami at the end of this week. The team is expected to have an announcement on Holmes' playing status following the doctor's visit.

(Rotoworld) NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Priest Holmes is unlikely to return to the Chiefs this season and is expected to land on injured reserve.

Impact: Holmes aims to play, according to GM Carl Peterson, and the matter should be resolved by Sunday. The results of Priest's appointment this week with a neurosurgeon will be the determining factor.

I saw an interview with Herm Edwards on the NFL Network last week. He referred to Priest as Casper the Friendly Ghost because he was rarely if ever seen around the Chiefs facility and difficult to get in touch with. I think at this point in the season even if Priest was cleared to play it would take him weeks to get into football shape. Schefter basically said he is done as a Chief this year.

Call it a hunch but I have a feeling that Priest makes an impact in FF this year.

Don't know what it is but I'm just getting this feeling. :tinfoilhat:

33yrs old now.Hasn't worked out with the team since he got hurt. Hasn't played a down, even in practice, in over a year. Not going to happen.

I agree here. Of course, there's probably still somebody out there that's going to pick up Barry Sanders in a couple weeks just in case he changes his mind.

Have there been any recent updates on P Holmes having a future in the NFL, or is he officially done?
Anyone? Bueller....Bueller??
I haven't heard anything. Being since he's 33 or 34 and has had over a year away from the game, I'd say he's toast.
KC was interested in Sammy Morris. That tells me Priest is toast ...
It's amazing....King of the Football world one minute....where are they now the next.

IMHO Priest is essentially retired. He just does not want to come out and declare he is "retired" because he would forfeit much of his signing bonus.

Instead, he indicates he WANTS to play. THe doctor then indicates he cannot perform (or would risk further injury). For that reason he says he can't yet. THe team then puts him on the physically unable to perform list or the injured reserve list.

Just speculation. But in any event, I would be shocked if Priest ever played another down of professional football again. He got his one big payday (the first contract with the chiefs was not a big payday), got hurt and now is happy without football. IIRC the stories a few years back was that he really didn't love the game.

I guess everyone will start receiving trade offers from Priest owners with this story linked. Lol.

I agree with the sentiment above, he's done.

8035 yards and 86 TD's for a 3 year span he was the most dominant RB in the league, now the only way he will get into the Hall of Fame is if he buys a ticket. Maybe he can call up Terrell Davis (7607yds 60TD's) and they can get a group rate.....football really is a brutal sport.

My understanding (which may very well be wrong) is that he gets PAID for each season he is "attempting" to play.

Therefore, no incentive to "retire". String along the medical deal until the contract is over or the team trys to fight it somehow (if that is possible).

If he retires, no more money.

As I have said for 18 months.....

Priest has the KC Brass by the, well you know what I mean....

I would have thought Carl Peterson would have fought Priest harder, being that he does not waste a dollar on any player. Not to mention teh fact that any money he counts against the cap, no matter how much it is re-structured, is debilitating to the team trying to win.

If Priest wanted to be about the team -- the team that gave him a shot, he would retire and he and KC would reach a settlement....one that does not count millions against a hard salary cap.

Dude's spine got trashed and it got that way while he playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. Probably deserves whatever he can get.

I would believe it only if FBG member "Syx" says so. Many will remember that he broke the Priest injury severity way before the national media. I would think he will tell us if Priest is ready to come back. Until then, I will assume he is still not coming back.

Guys, please note the article and first half of this thread is from last November. There's no news about him coming back now.
