There's a better quote where they say they'll use him like Marcus Allen and how Marcus played 6(whatever it was, I didn't remember it being that long) years for them etcI'd roll with this line of thought but that guy is not someone to ever count out. He's got some excellent character traits and has said he'd take LJ's job if he doesn't want it. If he's determinned to do something.....
One DB said he's not as fast but still is just as hard to bring down and has all his moves, then a few other D players completely agreed. He had some sweet move(on coaches trying to get him with pads) that seemed to make every fan at TC say how much they missed him etc. There is something in his tank. Treating him like a 50 year old man trying to play again, like some people are, seems to be the wrong thing to do.
Much like Marcus and Faulk, he's always had one of the best ever noses for the endzone. My hope/expectation is he can cover a bye week or two with a TD, few catches, and 20-30 yards. Any more and it's probably "pushing it" but.....
Clearly the game and RB production has changed since then, but Allen ranked 5, 19, 24, 15, and 27 in those years. If Holmes sticks on the roster, I don't think he would get the ball anywhere near as often as Allen did, but I do think his ypc would be higher. Over Allen's last three seasons, he only managed to go over 100 yards from scrimmage three times in 48 games (although he did have 5 games with two TD). Fantasy wise, Holmes probably would have to be a reserve back or stop gap flex player, as I think his workload and output could be decent on occasion but non-existent in other weeks.
I dunno. The coach and GM can say whatever the hell they want.
However, if LJ does hold out, and Michael Bennett tweaks a fingernail after his first carry, do you honestly believe that they won't look to Holmes for help?
“He understands that if he is able to come back, it will be in a different role,” Peterson indicated.
“He won’t be the workhorse. It would be 12 to 14 snaps a game. A third-down back. Goal-line (situations). We did that with Marcus Allen. He was 33 years old when we signed him.
“Marcus played five years with us. Now, he didn’t have the injury history Priest has. But don’t count the guy out.”
