IF they are going to play a game, the Pro Bowl should be played AFTER the Super Bowl. No, it has nothing to do with giving Super Bowl participants an opportunity to play. Its about how we, as football fans, need to be weaned off our Sunday addiction. Most of us are in fantasy leagues; many of us "invest" in the games and quite a few do both. We get a 17 week high during the regular season. The playoffs are nature's way of gently weaning us off football. The games are staggered so we can still watch a lot of action but the number of games is greatly decreased. Then we get the conference finals and we are down to 2 games. Then finally comes the Super Bowl. I heard a funny analogy on the radio earlier in the week re: the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl. The Super Bowl (at least recently) has been the great meal at the 5 star restaurant.......and the Pro Bowl is the ####ty little mint at the end of the meal. You often eat the mint anyways even though it is not particularly good. The Pro Bowl is nature's way of saying, OK its time for the NCAA tournament and/or spring training.

The game is a joke.

To make it more interesting they should only pay the winning team. Just cover expenses for the losers. And allow bump and run and full blitzing. Otherwise just get rid of the watered down version of football.

That's quite the theory.

I'd go the other way. Since the game is a joke, I'd rather see the NFL just do away with it and replace it with a "skills" competition like the NBA has. Have all the Pro Bowl QBs do accuracy drills, arm strength drills, and decision making drills. Instead of a "dunk contest", have the WRs have a "ridiculous catch" contest, offensive and defensive linemen can do 1-on-1 blocking drills, etc. I don't have the slightest interest in watching two disinterested "teams" go at it, but I would be glued to the set for a chance to watch Peyton Manning and Drew Brees competing in an accuracy contest or to watch Randy Moss, Brandon Marshall, and Vincent Jackson play a trumped up game of HORSE, catching passes behind their back and whatnot.Plus, then you wouldn't have to worry about nonsense like "injury replacements". If a pro bowler can't or won't participate, then instead of inviting Vince Young and David Garrard, you just proceed with the skills competition with the guys who do show up.

I agree, take out the risk of injury for a meaningless game that a bunch of guys who spend that meaningless check on a set of rims and and custom leather on their new rides and make it a skills/ 1970's superstars competetion format. I still laugh and enjoy the tandom bike relay race when I see it!

As a Miami resident, it was awesome having the Pro Bolw the week before the Super Bowl, and the ratings for the actual game were the highest of any sporting event that weekend, meaning more folks were watching the Pro Bowl than college basketball for instance.

I would like to see it continue this way but I understand many folks don't like it. I think the Pro Bowl should be played before the Super Bowl just like most other sports. No one plays defense, the score is 38-35 seems like all the time, just let it run the week before, no one misses the Super Bowl players, there is plenty of players to fill the spots.
