Pro Football Weekly TOP FIVE Draft Busts (2 Viewers)

GRIDIRON ASSASSIN

Footballguy
OK folks, ProFootballWeekly has listed their Top Five Draft Busts since 1997. Let's see if you can figure out who they are, I'll list them here, mixed amongst some other underachievers - I've kind of lumped them in groups, QBs, offensive skill position players, and defensive players:

'98, 2nd overall: QB Ryan Leaf, Chargers

'99, 1st overall: QB Tim Couch, Browns

'99, 3rd overall: QB Akili Smith, Bengals

'99, 12th overall: QB Cade McNown, Bears

'02, 3rd overall: QB Joey Harrington

'98, 5th overall: RB Curtis Enis, Bears

'01, 8th overall: WR David Terrell, Bears

'03, 2nd overall: WR Charles Rogers, Lions

'05, 10th overall: WR Mike Williams, Lions

'98, 2nd overall: DT Darrell Russell, Raiders

'98, 3rd overall: DE Andre Wadsworth, Cardinals

'01, 3rd overall: DT Gerard Warren, Browns

'01, 10th overall: DE Jamal Reynolds, Packers

'03, 14th overall: DE Michael Haynes, Bears

#5. AFC Chargers, Raiders, and Bengals (1)#4. NFC Cardinals and Packers (1)#3. Browns (2)#2. Lions (3)#1. Da Bears (4)

I know only who they SHOULD have picked:

Leaf (no-brainer as biggest bust ever)

A Smith

Terrell

Rogers

Russell

Actually I think you could make a case for a few others for that 5th one, but the first 4 are easy locks IMO.

I don't see why Couch is on so many lists. He wan't great but he had pretty average years before blowing out his arm.

Ryan Leaf

Akili Smith

Curtis Enis

David Terrell

Andre Wadsworth

I can't see how Wadsworth isn't one of the picks. That guy sucked, and he's didn't last in the league very long. Herein lies a huge clue to #4.

The fourth biggest bust, Cade McNown, who's NFL career lasted all of a few years.

A couple years with the Bears, where he started, finished and won ONE game (Detroit at Chicago - which oddly enough was the ONLY one of his games I witnessed).

Then he was traded to Miami, and I think he ended up in San Francisco.

Team cancer, finger pointer, and all around POS.

Cade was prophetic in predicting his NFL career while playing at UCLA.

Looks like its a toss up between the PAC-10 and the Bears as the biggest losers in this battle.

No Brian Bosworth? How about Steve Entman or Quinton Coryatt. In 1992, 2 first round picks and they both busted!! They were supposed to be dominate for years with the colts and they both sucked. But man were they awesome in college, I loved Coryatt at Texas A&M, man what a beast.

:lmao: Well first the criteria were since 1997 and "Entman" blew his knees out. I think Enis also had injury issues (don't recall specifics, so maybe he's a good candidate too).Yeah Cade is a good pick too. I guess I blocked him out since I was stupid enough to draft him in FF one year.wtf w/Couch, he's probably the best player of the group. Erratic for sure but look at the POS teams/OLs he's been behind.

I think Courtney Brown and Peter Warrick deserve consideration as well.

Courtney Brown has battled more injuries than I can count, but when he's been healthy he's been a very good player. Gerard Warren doesn't even have a qualifier- he had an off year last year (worth noting that he had turf toe on both big toes all season and couldn't get much power when pushing off), but played so well the year before that if it weren't for Champ Bailey, he would have been Denver's defensive MVP.True busts, in my opinion, can't even have passing moments where they resemble an NFL player. It also helps if their total suck is entirely unrelated to injury, and the player gets double-bonus points if he cost his team a fortune (which is why Leaf is the #1 bust of all time- it's possible that Charles Rogers was just as bad, but Detroit didn't send like 50 draft picks to land Charles Rogers).I agree that Robert Gallery and Mike Williams (the tackle, not the WR) deserve some serious consideration for biggest bust, simply because of all the discussion about how they were "can't-miss" (I saw Gallery once described as the most can't-miss prospect in the last 20 seasons).

Was Ki-Jana Carter really drafted before '97?
"After being selected as the number one overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft, he tore his anterior cruciate ligament on his first carry of his first preseason NFL game of his rookie year. Carter never fully recovered from the injury, which robbed him of his speed. Carter is regarded as one of the biggest draft busts of all time, compiling only 1,144 rushing yards in 10 seasons."

Thing is, its really Leaf and then everyone else. Its not even remotely close and there are alot of guys you could put 2-5.
