Problems with post office - not getting items (1 Viewer)

Black Ice Skeptic
In the past six months, I did not receive the following items that I verified were mailed:

1. Package of mail order prescriptions. I actually had a second incident of this, but was able to track that package down at the PO.

2. Dog tags from our county auditor. Sent early december.

3. Tickets to the circus, sent directly from arena. Sent about a month ago.

Anything I can do here? Would filing a complaint resolve anything or just result in more of my mail being dumped in a sewer?

I've had the same problem in the past. I instructed people who were sending me stuff to please use UPS or FedEx.

When that's not possible, request the stuff be sent certified mail.

There are two main reasons mail doesn't arrive: ineptitude and theft.

When was the last time a package sent to you via UPS or FedEx didn't arrive for one of those two reasons?

i had similar problem several years ago. it was around the holidays but other items weren't being delivered. Chicago had the worst USPS ranking at the time and my branch was the worst/lowest rated in the city. So it was the worst PO in the country, i guess?

i went there to track down packages, complain and just seee what my options were. finally, the branch manager asked me what was being delivered. i said things like Harry & David fruit, imported and specialized foodstuffs, and packages like that. he was like, "see, that's your problem. they can see what the items are from the outside and are 'misdirecting' them in the system." i had this vision of postal workers in the back eating my smoked salmon, asian pears and cheeses while he said that.

his recommendation was the have it delivered to your place of work or use a non-gov't service for delivery.

What a pain in the ###. But who the hell would want to steal my dog tags?

Unless is has a tracking number you are probably SOL. The complaint will go down like this... Sup asks carrier if he remembers Shuke's mail , "did you see anything from the circus" Carrier "no" ..Sup " "sorry Mr Shuke we never received it to deliver"

we are missing some water filters for the fridge ordered from Amazon, my latest water bill, and my wife's real estate license, all in the past couple of weeks.

mailman here.....mail theft is a huge problem for the PO....

....prior to Xmas we were advised that people in our city were following mailmen and stealing parcels off porches right after we delivered them

....about the same time our station alone had dozens of parcel lockers boken into and the parcels stolen, and several mailbox "banks" for apartment buildings broken into and the mail stolen

....over the years on my route thiefs have tried to drag away a box unit by putting a chain around it and pulling it off its mount with a truck, followed me and stole mail out of boxes that I had just serviced a minute before, and routinely broken into my box units, among many other things

....just TODAY a co worker told me that about 10 of his box units had been broken into last night

....and, a few years ago a co worker was fired for stealing mail....she was taking gift cards from Xmas/Birthday cards from what I heard....another guy here was fired for the same thing about 5 years ago and I assume others have been caught and fired for similar things that I didn't hear about

bottom line:

....pick up your mail EVERY day

....use Delivery Confirmation or Certified Mail for anything significant

....put in a hold card or have a neighbor pick up your mail when gone, even if you have a locked box

....get a locking box....even though most are easy to break in to, thiefs will usually bypass them for easier targets

....talk to your mail person when you get a chance and ask how big of a problem this is in your area

Thanks. But the thing is, We probably made 60-70 online purchases last year for items that were left on the porch. None of those were taken. The missing items were all things that would have fit in our mailbox. And I don't think people are going through mailboxes here.

water filters and real estate license arrived today! Water filter rang up @ amazon as being delivered in Sunday, which is weird.

Still no water bill.

I would contact the postal inspection service in your area and report that you have had multiple items stolen from your mail. There could be other people in your same mailing zone who are having the same problem and hopefully the inspection service will open an investigation.

One reason for the water filters being rang up as delivered on Sunday is possibly because the PO is sub contracting some deliveries from UPS. UPS gets it on Sunday and then we get it maybe late monday morning and deliver it on tuesday. Its called "last mile delivery" by the PO and basically handles the UPS overflow in certain areas certain times of the year. If the water bill is an under sized flimsy card (like some I see) its possibly lost as those are dificult to handle as they are non machineable and can stick to other mail and otherwise "fall thru the cracks", unfortunately.....

I've had the same problem in the past. I instructed people who were sending me stuff to please use UPS or FedEx.

When was the last time a package sent to you via UPS or FedEx didn't arrive for one of those two reasons?
Two months ago,FedEx app showed delivered at 4:00PM to my house,it was 4:01,I went outside, nothing. Called them, they tracked down the driver a few miles away. I got my package around an hour later. Found out some time later that driver was stealing packages, showing them as delivered, taking them.

Many family members have/are working for the post office. I worked there summers while in college. First they don't lose mail. Occasionally, a canceling machine will chew up a letter or two but they put those back together and try to get them where they are going. So this leaves your mailman not delivering your mail, delivering it to the wrong place, stealing it or someone else stealing it.

So what is the proper etiquette when you don't receive a package that the post office is tracking as delivered? File a charge back against the credit card you used to purchase? Obviously talking to the post office is the first step, but from my experience, they've never been too helpful.

Yeah, that's a waste of time and a sure way to raise your blood pressure 30 points.

I'd rather talk to a ######ed four-year old about quantum physics.

I get text confirmations on UPS, it's pretty damn close to real time. As soon as the scan the package and mark delivered I get the text that's it's on my front porch.
