Wondered the same thing, what exactly qualifies as 'processed meat'
So what is processed meat?Processed meat has been modified to either extend its shelf life or change the taste and the main methods are smoking, curing, or adding salt or preservatives.
Simply putting beef through a mincer does not mean the resulting mince is "processed" unless it is modified further.
Processed meat includes bacon, sausages, hot dogs, salami, corned beef, beef jerky and ham as well as canned meat and meat-based sauces.
Red meat is a darker colour than white meat and includes beef, lamb and pork because of higher levels of proteins that bind to oxygen, haemoglobin and myoglobin in blood and muscle.
Yea, I mean...I'm going to enjoy my life. I don't eat much red meat (or processed) but I do enjoy steaks and things like sausages occasionally. Way it goes.We primarily cook with ground turkey, which is just the worst.I give up.
Given a long enough timeline I'm going to die.. and seemingly everything causes cancer.
If you get through life without heart conditions or accidents, it pretty much has to be Cancer.I give up.
Given a long enough timeline I'm going to die.. and seemingly everything causes cancer.
You say that now..... I think most everything in moderation is fine personally. Also, sugar is fuel for cancer. If the choice is give up bacon or get cancer....bring on the cancer.
Huh?Dr Ian Johnson, nutrition researcher and Emeritus Fellow, Institute of Food Research, said: “IARC has concluded that the evidence in favour of an association between processed meat consumption and cancer, probably because of the ingredients used in processing, meets their criteria for placing this class of foods on the list of recognised human carcinogens.
"It is important to emphasise however that this classification reflects the strength of the evidence for an effect, not the actual size of the risk.
"Meat consumption is probably one of many factors contributing to the high rates of bowel cancer seen in America, Western Europe and Australia, but the mechanism is poorly understood, and the effect is much smaller than, for example, that of cigarette smoking on the risk of lung cancer. It is also worth noting that there is little or no evidence that vegetarians in the UK have a lower risk of bowel cancer than meat-eaters.”
Speaking before the report was published, he pointed out that cigarette smoking increases the risk of lung cancer around 20 fold.
For the love of God, WHY?We primarily cook with ground turkey, which is just the worst.
You shut your whore mouf!

Smoking is an appetite suppressant. Take up smoking, curb your appetite for processed meats, and viola....You're healthier already. The lesson I'm drawing from this is that I should start smoking.

Just wait until Fukushima skews the stats. The asian diet is what they look at to follow as that population has one of the lowest incidence of cancer, at least breast cancer. Coincidence that their diet doesn't have much red meat and no processed stuff?

Best of luck with the chemo. I hope it is as side effect free as possible.I've been told red meat feeds cancer cells so after chemo, I have to really cut down. I love a good steak. Before I start chemo hopefully finally next week, I'm going to Black Angus and order the porterhouse! The diet after chemo is basically no fried, processed, packaged, junk type foods. Even dairy need to be non fat or cut way down too.
