I instinctively pronounce it has neesh but in a classroom setting I've been pressured a couple times by various people (including Professors) to pronounce it as nitch. Since they pronounced it as nitch I felt obligated to respond and pronounce it in the same fashion. Seriously, #### those guys.

Yeah, just jackin' around.  If you look it up online at Webster it is shown as nitch.  

Neesh is just so much more effete (pronounced dooshy).

Since niche is a word that is directly borrowed from French, some people choose to pronounce the word using the original French pronunciation. Merriam-Webster lists both pronunciations (as well as the halfway-between pronunciation of "nish" [nɪʃ]), so both are technically valid.
