I've been over at protrade for a little while messing around. It's free and fun if you like the stock market. They have the basic options of buy/sell/short/cover.
As a real quick summary, current stock prices for the NFL are set to their fantasy performance last year (not sure what their exact scoring is atm, but I'm sure it's similar to standard fantasy scoring).
Looking over their website some, it looks like they might set the prices based on their projections for the upcoming season instead of using last year's fantasy totals. Not sure.
For instance, LT2 is currently $455.80 a share. Then throughout the season, the market determines the current stock price. If LT2 gets hurt in week 4 and is scheduled to miss 2-4 weeks, his price will plummet accordingly.
At the end of the season (including playoffs), you get an "earnings day", where all player prices are set to their final fantasy totals. A player trading at $150 who earned $160 FP, will have his price set to $160. If you had any stock in that player, you can sell off and make $10/share.
In between that time, you can buy/sell as much as you want (or for challenges you can set max transactions per week limits).
Private challenges work using the same system, except it's well.. private. You start with a portfolio of $25,000 and set the rules the same way you would in a fantasy league. I could start a private FBG challenge set for Sept 6 at 12pm eastern and have it go 24 weeks (maximum), which should bring us to the Super Bowl. Players in the playoffs continue to accumulate fantasy points and make money.
Here are the various private challenge options:
NFL positions available (you can add whichever you want):
QB, WR, RB, TE, P, K
Yes, that's P as in punter.
Trades per week:
2, 6, 10, 30, unlimited.
There are also IPOs. This seems to include rookies and players who were in the league last year, but recorded very minimal stats.
