PS4 A/V Question (1 Viewer)

3 hour lunch

Footballguy
Seems like a lot of knowledgeable A/V people around here so I thought I'd see if anyone can answer this...I am attempting to swap out my PS3 for a PS4 for use on my projector. I got the video working ok but the PS3 was previous plugged into an audio splitter from the digital out/optical port on the PS3 for use with the Sonos soundbar. The PS4 does not appear to have a similar port to be able to use the same cord...the AUX on the PS4 is a completely different shape (flat).  Is there a cord with 2 different ends to be able to use the PS4 but keep the same splitter I already have? Or, do i need to find a completely new splitter?

I don't quite understand your question so I will try and explain the outputs to see if that helps.

You have two ways of passing audio from the PS4.

1) Via the HDMI output

or

2) Via the digital optical output

Look at this picture of the back of the ps4.

If you used the digital optical out on the PS3, you should be able to use the identical port on the PS4.

I just looked again and mine absolutely does not have a digital optical out. Are there different types of PS4s? From left to right mine are power, AUX, HDMI and LAN.

Andy- the splitter had something to do with making it easy to switch the audio when switching from HDMI1 input (DirecTV) to HDMI2 (Playstation). I don't remember all of the details. I'm an idiot.

Edit ps4 slim has no optical out...

Wtf

Youll need an hdmi converter

That's lame.

What kind of cord connects the soundbar to the TV?

I would think you'd just have to run the two audio inputs (from the PS4 and DirecTV) to the TV and then one output from TV to soundbar.

Ohhhh....projector. Missed that.

Yeah, you'll have to get an hdmi splitter that does the same thing as the optical one did before.

So what is that, exactly? This is all in a closet behind a wall from where my projector is; making it a little more difficult. Maybe I'll just return it. Got the Uncharted bundle for $299 though, at Target, which seemed good....
