PSA - Basal Cell Carcinoma (1 Viewer)

The General

Footballguy
Went to the skin doc under recommendation from my regular doc during my annual check up. I wear sunblock, hat, etc but do get a lot of sun in the summer and am a white ### honkey.

The skin doc says all is good except a small spot on near my hairline on side of my head that I didn't even really notice. She shoots me up and shaves a little sliver off for testing. Probably have to use some cream or perhaps get it removed with a procedure.

She is so nonchalant about the whole thing so apparently it's not that big of a deal right now.

However if you look this up in the internets it can be pretty hardcore.

Always wear your sunblock, FBG bromigos.

I burn easily so was seeing dermatologists every 6 to 12 months for awhile..
I had 3 different areas, one on my nose, and two on my back removed... luckily all 3 came back with what they called "Cancer like but not Cancer".

The 3rd Dermatologist explained to me that all 3 removals were "early stage Basal Cell", but since they were caught so early none had entered the "Cancer" stage yet which is why the others said "Cancer Like" .

The last removal was 3 years ago and I am now down to visits once every other year unless something else shows up again

Good to hear. I have to think I'm in the same boat. But I did leave the doc office thinking WTF.

Keep wearing sunscreen my pasty brother.

I'm shopping for a bucket hat for golfing, hiking, etc and upping my SPF game.

I've had the bad ones & good ones.  Cut out the bad.  Hurts like hell as it takes about 3 or 4 injections to deaden the area, then they start cutting.  Most times stiches.   so far just on my arms & not face.  it is what it is.

My worst one was between my shoulder blades... As you know, when they remove one, they not only remove the cell, but a good chunk of skin around it...
When they removed that one I made the mistake of stretching my arms too far and tore a couple stitches out.. Basically looked like this guy when it happened
Had to go back in to get the stitches put back in.

I'm not remotely pasty and I've had one of these removed.  I did lifeguard for 8 years and didn't wear sunblock after building up a base tan. I've probably been sunburnt less than 5 times total.

The good news is this sort of cancer can take YEARS to spread.  Get to the dermatologist every year or two and you'll be fine.
