Anyone know much about it?  Have a family member or friend with it?  Specifically in a young child?

Know enough about it.  Not very common in young children but can be seen.  Feel free to PM if you have specific questions and I can try and answer.

First diagnosis is often an eye exam.  Generally easy to treat.  One of the primary signs is a swollen optic nerve.  Most common demographic is an overweight woman in her 40's, but generally more common in overweight females as a whole.

Seeing eye doc today, in about 2 hours.  This is in a 3 year old boy, so not the common demographic at all.  Started on a drug already, but I understand that can take time to really kick in.
