Public Service Announcement for those who own Fords. (1 Viewer)

Take a few minutes and confirm that the lug wrench that comes with your spare tire will still grab on to the lug nuts securely. Before you have to actually change a tire.  I learned this the hard way.  Ford lug nuts are notorious for swelling (tee hee hee) due to their composition.  I ended up having to have my daughters car towed for a simple tire change out.  Very frustrating.  I have told the place to replace all the lug nuts with 3rd party.  Apparently this has been a big deal, although this lawsuit eventually got dropped.

Thanks for the PSA. I wasn't aware and will check mine. Wouldn't want to find this out on the side of a road.

Deez?

Yes, a 4-way would do the job.
I don’t know.  The Discount Tire  nearby loaned me every socket they had, even a custom one (19.5 mm) made specifically for dealing with Fords with this particular issue.  I had it towed there.  I think they had to beat the 19.5 mm on with a hammer, remove the lug nut, and then had the joy of trying to remove the lug nut from the socket.  I’m told it’s hell and all tire places hate Fords the most.

Yeah I had this problem on my F-150 a couple of years ago when I tried to change my flat tire at home. My lug wrench wouldn't fit over the lug nuts due the coating on the lug nuts that swells. Had to buy an aftermarket lug wrench.
