I'll hand jam these in the spreadsheet too, we aren't really going by any order anymore right?
Yeah, nobody is going in order per, I think, what NV said yesterday. He said one A.M. pick and one P.M. pick.

eta* Love that list, BTW. Not a bad song on it, IMHO.

Since I'm talking about the worst performance I've ever seen live, I'll pick one of the bands that has consistently been one of the best live bands I've ever seen.  I first saw them in Berkeley while I was in HS, and during my freshman year of college I learned they were playing in the backyard of a frat house.  Needless to say I was super excited.  Managed to come across someone selling beer wristbands to underage youth and had access to unlimited Natty Ice for $10.  Probably the most fun I've ever had at a concert.

10.xx - Face to Face - Disconnected

This frat had some pretty big name bands play in their backyard.  Before my times they had Sublime (one of the last shows they ever performed), Blink-182, AFI, No Use For A Name, and others.  While I was there they had Unwritten Law, Strung Out, and Face to Face twice.  Frat got shut down my junior year (I think) due to a hazing lawsuit, but damn I miss college.
That was about to be my PM pick. Love it. Somehow I missed them live several times-always had something going on.

Lotta good memories with this one cranked up in the background.

I'm a huge Alkaline Trio fan, but I could see that, yeah. My friend just saw them in Boston and said they were great. Very hit or miss, I guess, but he and I are both part of the all-in contingent mentioned, so everything with a grain of salt.
Matt Skiba is actually with Blink 182 now. He was the one who had the serious drug issues and the vocal issue. He had to have surgery to repair his vocal chords. Actually I think the drummer from Suicide Machines is with Alkaline Trio now as well.

Yep. I'd heard that. I know they just played Boston, but I'm not sure about their line up.

Here's the set list. Not a lot of emphasis on older stuff.

I don't think I have heard a single thing from them after Good Mourning. I don't even listen to GM now. Alkaline Trio for me will always be those first 3 albums.
Yeah, I had stopped listening before I really got started. It's the first three for sure for me, too.

I debated picking their cover of Bikeage as my cover song. (Not that I've picked a cover yet)
I'm sorry. It was Bikeage that they cribbed it from. And then they covered it. I remember being a college dj and could just sort of leave them on back-to-back and go catch a cigarette outside.

listening through the playlist, I like a lot of it, but a few that stood out were Wire - 12XU, Distillers - I am a revenant and McCulsky - To Hell with Good Intentions

Going along with my pick of Millencolin, ho many bands from outside North America and UK have been picked so far? Are there lots of punk bands from other countries? I can’t think of many.

Might have been a good category, but right now I can only think of the Hives

MRR used to have a monthly report from scenes around the world. It was always interesting to see all these bands so far away and with an element of utter danger in the black and white photos. Sure, there are tons of bands from outside NA and the UK, it's just the distribution often local, the channels of information small, etc.

I linked before to a band from the Netherlands that put out a single on Baby Doll records called Jabberwocky.  This was at my punk height, probably '95/'96 or so.

Cool. I also love Wire and have taken them in regular (not just punk) drafts. Pink Flag and Chairs Missing are just darn fine albums. They're really good.

I have one on my list that I saw live while on a trip that fits this criteria.  Not very well known here, but big over there and they put on a hell of a show.  At the start of the draft I would have guessed nobody has heard of them, but people here know their ####, so I'm guessing they are familiar to some.

When you picked Millencolin it got me thinking.  I've never seen them live, and I'm not sure I have been aware of any of their concerts in my vicinity.  Always have wanted to see them

Saw them at Warped Tour once. Honestly they didn’t leave much of an impression one way or another.

Sorry for being away again all day. I work for a company where Black Friday is an important day, which I likely should have factored into this. I should be around tomorrow morning but Thursday/Friday will be write offs. It looks like you've all kept it moving smoothly anyway. It looks like round 11 is underway so picks for it can be made any time.

Round 12 - Wednesday AM

Round 13 - Wednesday PM

PJ Harvey - Rub Til it Bleeds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVeP-AHFk-s

Let me preface this with an ***OFFICIAL NOTICE*** to preclude any gripes about this not being punk -- I will ####### fistfight every single one of you IRL over this.

I don't even know where to start with this song.   It is perfection.    The slow build on this track, the payoff, PJHs perfectly commanding blend of insanity and sex and anger.

Couple all that with this fact: bar-none, throw every other possible suggestion straight to the garbage pile -- this track is THE platinum standard for how drums should sound when attempting to record rock and/or roll.

I haven't been on board with PJH's entire career of albums -- she's had some records that missed with me (which is fine -- I like to see artists try new things, even if they're not always in line with what I am expecting or want).   But when she hits, she's simply the greatest female to ever strap up a guitar and sing in the history of rock. No one else even comes close.  End of story.

Polly Jean:   😍 hollatcha boy Ahrny here, will ya? 😍

Not punk.

🎶 la de da da da da da

Nah, just kidding, her four or eight track recording session from Rid Of Me was something I listened to a long time ago. I never got Polly Jean, but that album was pretty stripped down and cool.

i got 2 songs, cause the one i was going to pick is 1 minute long.

The ##### - Hate the Police:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knAdBUaR0Es

i have no idea when i found this song or how, but it seems to be prevalent in various tapes and playlists i have had. Catchy song, but no idea what the band's message is and purpose is

Favor from the thread - i am pretty sure this song is in a movie (maybe the end credits), and i spent 2 days trying to figure which one. Would love if anyone knows....

b) Here was my pick, and this is somewhat related because this song has a definitive purpose and meaning behind it. I have always liked it because the song defines the essence of Punk a bit. I assume many in here are familiar with the Dead Kennedy's, but if not, their music has had political undertones and often satirical. Hits like "Kill the Poor" are a good example. As the band became more popular they began to get a following from Nazi skinheads who didn't quite get the message that the band didn't actually advocate killing poor people to resolve issues. Their shows were getting over run, so band did the best thing and wrote a new song to address it. Went outside their norm, and went straight to the point with this one. Great way for a band to fight back, and to do it through the best means possible:

Yep, there's good stuff on there.  I think the 4Track version of Driving is better than the proper album version.

The ##### is a pretty famous song. You might have gotten in through osmosis. If you're into Mudhoney, they covered it on Superfuzz Bigmuff. I know it appeared on Rhino's Faster and Louder series, too, which was a pretty popular compilation from the '90s.

As for the movie, I have no idea.

Zines were a cool part of the scene and helped to document early punk that would have otherwise been lost.
