KFFL) Shawn Wansley, of the Laurel Leader-Call, reports undrafted rookie free agent P Luke Johnson (Southern Mississippi) has decided to give up football and not pursue an NFL career. Johnson, who averaged 44.9 yards per punt and was All-Conference USA in 2005, attended a tryout camp with the Detroit Lions last month. He said he did well, but it's time to move on. "I went to Detroit a few weeks ago and they told me I could make it (in the NFL)," he said. "They did not have room for me up there, but he told me I was good enough to make it. Nobody else really contacted me after that." Johnson is going to become a preacher, serving his local church.
