Supposedly donating $1 million to "social justice causes".
"I am planning to take it a step further, I'm currently working with organizations to be involved, and making sure I'm actively in these communities, as well as donating the first million dollars I make this year to different organizations to help these communities and help these people," he said.
Kaepernick added: "I've been very blessed to be in this position and make the kind of money I do, and I have to help these people. I have to help these communities. It's not right that they're not put in the position to succeed, or given the opportunities to succeed."
In Oakland, Lane sat on the bench behind his standing teammates before Seattle's game against the Raiders. Lane said he doesn't know Kaepernick, but was "standing behind him."
"It's something I plan to keep on doing until I feel like justice has been served," Lane said. "No, I didn't tell anyone I was going to do it. I just did it. ... I don't mean no disrespect toward anybody, but I'm just standing behind what I believe."
I'm happy he's standing up for what he believes in and I agree with his underlying message. But the only difference between this and the dozens of other prominent athletes and celebrities who've done the same is that he chose the national anthem as the vehicle to express his frustrations and desire for change. I don't really care what anyone does during the national anthem so it never struck me as a big deal, but I guess he deserves extra credit from a marketing perspective for knowing people would get their panties in a wad about it.I think it's a real story that's moving the conversation in a promising direction. I watched his whole presser late last night and I was proud of the guy![]()
Some NFL players seem ready to take on this issue, that's good. The socks were dumb, no question about that.. but it takes some guts and the right kind of attitude to do what he's doing now
Of course this is a nothing story ... but our nation's two greatest sources of asinine hot-takery are sports and racial politics, and this is a perfect storm. Aging white columnists at mid-sized newspapers across the country probably creamed their pleated khakis when they first heard about it.
Hey my cousin wrote that song #######I'm happy he's standing up for what he believes in and I agree with his underlying message. Now if we can also change the national anthem to a better song we'd really be talking. Give me This Land is Your Land all day over that awful claptrap.
Sept '16: Promises to donate $1M.I'd be very surprised if he actually donates that $1M...talk is cheap, so I hope he can back it up and actually follow through on his words. By the looks of him, he can't even afford a hair cut right now.
I'll wait.Go to the BLM thread or do some research. Not hard to find.
Totally agree. FWIW, the socks pic is from several months ago. But he seemed actually genuine for the first time in my recollection. There will be no pleasing some but his media session showed a level of depth that I didn't think he had. Remains to be seen how this develops, but I'm shifting my opinion from sell to hold.Hey my cousin wrote that song #######
I thought the sitting was sloppy, his words were sloppy and after the socks pic came out yesterday I figured he's on the last train to embarrassmentville. But last night changed my mind completely.. The kneeling was a better idea, and after the game he was focused, relaxed, articulate, and I felt like I was watching something important. Not manypro athletespeople could get up there and handle that the way he did.. Probably a big part of why it hadn't really happened yet.
Like we should listen to Kareem: my dad says you don't work hard enough on defense. And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try... except during the playoffs.
I think some are just making fun of it. I doubt it actually bothers anyone. Why does his hair style bother some folks?? I have a brother who gets all in a tizzy when he sees the guys with the locks and braids. Doesn't make sense to me.
And some of us are jealous that he has that much hairI think some are just making fun of it. I doubt it actually bothers anyone.
I think it's kind of funny imagining that fro in a helmet, but it's not germane to the pig cops or the anthem issues.
For both sides. Also proud of Nate Boyer who stepped in with some guidance and some credibility
I like our national anthem specifically because it does piss off so many people.I'm happy he's standing up for what he believes in and I agree with his underlying message. you know what bugs me, white guys with chick hair. the 80s are over, man. Poison destroyed feminine hairdo's. let it go guys. let it go.I will get off his back ...if he cuts that stupid, ugly, f**king fro'
I don't understand that either. At one point a fro was considered a cultural expression of being black and didn't sit well with some establishment folks. Perhaps that mentality still exists today among some of the older crowd. Why does his hair style bother some folks?? I have a brother who gets all in a tizzy when he sees the guys with the locks and braids. Doesn't make sense to me.
RIP NipsFro = too Afrocentric/militant
Shaved head: too prisonish
Short and neat: too much like Malcolm X
Braids/Conrows: too gangsta
This is acceptable
Cracker.I will get off his back ...if he cuts that stupid, ugly, f**king fro'
The collar? I agree...Fro = too Afrocentric/militant

Nice to see the police coming out against someone exercising their freedom of expression under the Constitution by silently protesting. Now the Santa Clara Police Union has sent a letter to the 49ers telling them to basically 'put your boy in his place or we aren't working your games'
If Officer Pete Malloy wasn't enough to make you hate cops, this should be.
Or perhaps the same people that think a mohawk, long purple hair, mullets, or crusty hippie dreads are all pretty stupid think a fro is as well.squistion said:I don't understand that either. No, no. It HAS to be rooted in racism.Or perhaps the same people that think a mohawk, long purple hair, mullets, or crusty hippie dreads are all pretty stupid think a fro is as well.
So Kap should have the right to protest, but officers should be forced to VOLUNTEER and not have the right to do the same? Interesting take on rights you have there. Those police aren't using their brains. Dumb stance, and it'd be great if the governor sent them a message that if they are assigned to protect 60,000 citizens, they should ####ing do it.
Shocking cops often have a rep for being thick. Yes, let's put 60k people at risk because one guy sat down or wore a pair of socks you didn't like. The 49ers are free to hire private security.Shocking cops often have a rep for being thick. Yes, let's put 60k people at risk because one guy sat down or wore a pair of socks you didn't like. People are out of their ####### trees in this country.
I guess a week is sufficient notice for this temper tantrum. The 49ers are free to hire private security.
I'm sure there are plenty of security companies who'd love to get the contract.I guess a week is sufficient notice for this temper tantrum.
Not surprising this was ignored the first time. Once again, it's voluntary duty. Police should be forced to volunteer for extra duty? I guess only Black Rights Matter! BRM!!!I guess a week is sufficient notice for this temper tantrum.
