QB Deshaun Watson, CLE (1 Viewer)

Watson to Cleveland?

(FantasyPros) According to Ian Rapoport, Deshaun Watson is expected to be traded to the Browns. Analysis: After being told on Thursday afternoon that they are out of the race for Watson, news dropped that the Browns have officially acquired Deshaun Watson from the Texans. The terms of the deal remain unknown but the compensation is rumored to include three-first round picks. Watson has also agreed to a new five-year, $230 million contract with the entire contract fully guaranteed.

But the important thing is that there's only one such QB in the AFC E.  And I don't mean Mac Jones.
This week it became harder for BUF to make it to the SB. And nearly impossible for the other AFC East teams. 2 games vs Allen, 1 vs Rodgers, Watson, Burrows, Cousins, Herbert, Jackson. That's 8 games vs top 10-12 QBs.

Can't wait to hear if any other players are involved. Like Kareem Hunt? Are we assuming Mayfield?
I haven't heard about a Draft pick or player yet but I know Watson got a big raise already.

-Watson went to whoever was going to give him a King's Ransom, he wanted Mahomes money.

-$230M guaranteed and he will only be about 30-31 when this contract runs its course, he could potentially sign one for double this in just a few years.

Do we know what Cleveland gave up?

Browns and Texans still are finalizing official trade compensation for Deshaun Watson, but it is expected to include three first-round picks, a third-round pick and potentially a fifth-round pick, league sources tell ESPN.

Full trade terms: #Texans are trading QB Deshaun Watson and a 4th-round pick to the #Browns for THREE first-round picks, a 3rd-round pick and a 5th-round pick.

Going to have to disagree here. The only teams with a shot at the #1 seed in the AFC are the Bills and Titans. The other two divisions are going to kill each other.

The 3 first round picks are 1.13 this year, and probably picks in the late 1st round the next 2 years. Unless Watson misses time. It seems very reasonable for a proven top QB.

@AdamSchefter

What is now thought to be the final compensation in today’s seismic trade: Browns get: Deshaun Watson and a 5th-round pick. Texans get: three first-round picks, a third-round pick and a fourth-round pick.

WHAT. A. MASTERCLASS.

Hopefully we don't see yet another shift to another team

The trade compensation was great for Cleveland.   The contract is horrible.  I guess they had to do what they had to do, but that much guaranteed for a guy with that many red flags might be a bad idea.

Come on Caserio. At least he’s gone, but zero players in return? Should’ve at least demanded one of the RBs and/or a young defender.

We’re going to need a WB in next year’s draft but didn’t get enough in this trade to move up if need be for Stroud/Young.

Caserio gets a solid C-

Saints taking Ls this offseason like it was a playoff game. Hate to see it.
I'm glad we didn't guarantee that contract.  I'll just settle for the easy Ws against Tampa this year and let it work itself out down the road.

Have you been sitting on that post all this time?

the more im starting to come down from the high, the more im realizing what an absolute A+ this was from the Browns mgmt.

We gave up NO ONE. How? a 13th pick and 2 likely late rnd 1sts?

The price is fine too. Cap went up, going up again year after year. We got our key guys locked in on long term deals already, and w the cap going up consistenly, even less of a problem. You wanna win, you gotta pay.

Anything is possible, but if I were the Colts I would get Mayfield if he isn't expensive.  He's better than JimmyG.  If they can't get him for a decent price they should go after a mobile QB in Mariota.

Sounds like the biggest reason of change of heart to the Browns was the other teams pushed back on what he wanted to get paid and the Browns did not.

Very hard to compare this trade to any other situation. With Deshaun having the no trade clause, the Texans couldn't play teams off of each other to negotiate the best deal for the Texans. It was almost a free agent situation where Deshaun could pick the team that either was in the best position to win, or offered the most money, or in the case of the Browns, probably both.

Yep.  Not very happy with the trade from a HOU perspective.  The three 1st round picks sound great on paper but they'll all likely be mid to late.  This team is going to be a really really tough watch for the next few years.

Good riddance. I'm fine with that for Houston. Turn the page.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends if Casserio is a good GM. For what he had to work with, he did a really good job with the 2021 draft. Starting next year, I think he will be a lot more active in the free agent market.

Agreed and that's being kind.

Watson at time of the trade is IMO easily the most valuable player to ever be traded(I got to put in the at the time disclaimer because of Favre).

I thought he was at least going to get some seconds back with the 3 #1's. Instead he got basically a first and some change more then Jamaal Adams got the Jets from what I saw of the deal.
