QB Geno Smith, LV (2 Viewers)

I don't think people realize how good Geno has been playing these last 3-4 years, he's been around QB10 or so. That OL has been pathetic, and the play calling has been as bad as anyone. Geno has been operating at a handicap, and its probably also hurt Walker and Metcalf as well. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Kubiak got things going for them. Carr and co. were tearing it up before everyone got hurt this year.

Sam Howell time? I’d like to see him in an offense not led by Bieniemy
Darnold? Rodgers? Dart?
If it’s not Darnold I bet they give Sam a shot and draft a rookie to compete with him
Sam was so so bad last year. If they go that route it is going to be a rough year. The rebuild would be all in.
You mean in DC? I didn’t realized he played much (if at all) last season..

He played in the Green Bay game and looked so lost. It was weird. 5/14 with a pick and 4 sacks.

Only one game, but holy hell it was ugly.

Where were the Jets on this one? Sleeping? Las Vegas got Geno for a third?

This is such a bad deal for the Seahawks, IMO. Have fun rebuilding.

These teams that have quarterbacks don't know what it's like to not have one at all.

Kinda wonder if the Jets are actually serious when they say they are comfortable starting Tyrod.

Interesting timing on this...this is not a sweetheart offer that you could not turndown (it's only a #3),,,it's more of a move you make after acquiring another QB...gotta believe Seattle knows something with regard to their QB position...with where they are drafting (#18) and a shaky QB rookie group I don't think they can be counting on a rookie right now...I also can't believe they are simply handing the keys over to Sam Howell without any legit competition...something is up here.

I wouldn't be 100% surprised if Seattle was just doing a full offensive reset. Trade Geno, trade Metcalf, hell maybe even trade Walker in a contract year.

This is where I was going after I thought about it. Why under a new HC? I can't figure that out. Maybe he wants his own guys and is willing to go through it? Seems like he'd wind up a sacrificial lamb when things went wrong, but maybe Schneider has that kind of cachet?

I could see that but when it comes to the QB position it's not that easy...I just don't see them simply going with Howell...the Patriot fan in me hopes that Joe Milton is part of a deal to get DKM (that is me making that up...I have heard zero about that other than the Pats are reportedly interested in DKM).

Offense will go thru Walker & JSN

I was thinking they could sign like Justin Fields or Daniel Jones (cheaper younger guys with starting experience that maybe could surprise) but plan on shooting for someone in the 2026 class.

ETA: Or, wild idea, they trade Geno and DK, sign Rodgers and Adams, and have extra picks to spend on the OL.

Seattle is not rebuilding.

They will pursue and likely land Darnold. That's why this trade went down today, they wanted to make sure Darnold was not tagged.

They did not want to trade DK, he's trying to force their hand and they will oblige him for the right deal.

But they are not tanking, rebuilding or trying to take a step back.

I definitely could be wrong but Howell could work for a year and see what happens.

Big picture a deal like Geno's (only getting a #3) a couple of days before free agency reeks of knowing you are getting someone like Darnold.

Straight up.

A player can change his mind, interest can pick up for him when other teams know they need to pick up their offers so I'm not going to say it's a lock but I'd be surprised if he's not signing with Seattle next week.

Free Agency does not really begin next week. It starts at the combine. Fully believe for instance Cousins and Atlanta had a deal in place before the combine was over last year.

Also on a similar note I believe this is why the Chiefs traded Thuney. I believe they already know where that financial savings is going.

I think the Jets third round pick was already sent to the Raiders for Adams.

I think this very well could be the play

Yes. Indeed it was. I know that, actually, I'm talking more that the compensation is cheap than the actual logistics of what the Jets could have sent. It's not that much for a starting QB.

I think you both know this already but that's the pick they used to acquire Geno.

I didn't but it didn't really matter. Jets gave the Raiders a third. I didn't know which one they used to acquire Geno, but it was a free pick regardless (at least how I looked at it).

But thanks for the knowledge.

So, should we expect an increase, decrease, or about the same fantasy production for Geno as a Raider?
I'm thinking small increase, but this is based on expecting LV to add a WR weapon to Bowers as well as an upgrade at RB. If that doesn't happen will adjust my view. Think upgrade from Seattle's OL will help him plus the move to the dome (see post above)

Seems very reasonable

Raiders acquired QB Geno Smith from the Seahawks in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com was first to report the deal, and multiple outlets report that the signal-caller is expected to get a new contract with the trade. Mike Garofolo writes that it’s the 92nd pick of the draft, as the Raiders had multiple third-round selections. Smith finished his third year as the starter for the Seahawks with 4,320 yards passing, a 70.4 percent completion percentage and a 20/14 TD/INT over 17 starts. The 34-year-old will head to Las Vegas to be the starter, and it’s fair to say that the weapons at his disposal — with all due respect to Brock Bowers — are a downgrade over what he had in Seattle. Still, it’s a reunion with former coach Pete Carroll, and he’ll get a chance to help the Raiders try and compete in the vaunted AFC West. The big question now is what Seattle does to address the quarterback position.

Fantasy Fallout: Seahawks trade Geno Smith to Raiders

It was time. Geno has great arm talent, but when it came to prudence and down/distance/situational....he wasn't good. Wish him the best in LV.....hope he gets the giant bag he feels he deserves.

He'll be playing for Pete Carroll. Remember the "let Russ cook" thing? Pete likes to run and run and run the football.
Geno was QB5 in 2022 under Carroll, and was 8th in the NFL in pass attempts that season.

For some reason, I sense this stat lacks a larger context. Like half the QBs being injured or something like that.

Agreed on your Gene Smiff concerns. Hoping he can be placeholder at least.

Keep drafting/searching for QB OTF this year and every year.

It was a top heavy year, Geno was 7th in PPG but the Top 5 were leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else by 5-8 PPG (including Lamar if you back out the partial games he got injured.) Only about 1 PPG separated Geno from Daniel Jones & Herbert as QB15 & QB16 and guys like Murray, Tua, & Dak had partial games that brings their avg down.

Just good enough you won't be picking high for a future QB.
maybe but hard to continually tank seasons until you get a top 5 pick in a year that has a strong QB class, and even then it's far from a guarantee, and you never know what will happen next year, there's something to be said for putting a competitive team on the field.

Geno is only really a consideration in SFLEX leagues, but I do believe people are completely underestimating the Pete Carroll impact here...particularly taking over for someone who was clearly overmatched in the role.

We'll see what the draft yields, but my guess is that it's going to be a TMac/Jeanty decision. And they have decent talent on on the OL in Glaze/Parham/Powers-Johnson/Miller.

I think they'll be more than competitive.
