LinkSaw the play, he wasn't hit when he came out. He looked like a baseball pitcher when they get hurt, so its probably ligaments or tendons. My guess based on the visual was that this will be a long term deal. Possibly season ending. It looked that bad. We'll know more about the extent of Delhomme's injury today, after he is poked and prodded by doctors, but it didn't look good Sunday. He got hurt on a sack by Atlanta's John Abraham in the third quarter, when Abraham unsuccessfully tried to yank the ball from Delhomme's grasp. Delhomme kept playing and threw a touchdown pass to tight end Jeff King on that drive. He started one more touchdown march before taking himself out of the game.
Carr, on the sideline, had no idea Delhomme was in pain until the quarterback dropped to the ground, holding his right arm.
"I strained it," Delhomme said later, his elbow wrapped in ice. "I made a couple of throws on the next drive and it just didn't feel good. I don't know what it is. I hope everything is normal."
This is pure speculation! From what I understand, it could be anywhere from starting next week, to being out a couple weeks.Jake Delhomme

If you expected anything that resembled fact out of H.K., you clearly need to come in more than once a year. This is pure speculation! From what I understand, it could be anywhere from starting next week, to being out a couple weeks.Jake Delhomme

Precisely. On the play in question, Delhomme threw a relatively short pass and keeled over in pain grabbing his elbow. Nobody touched him. Anyone else who saw his reaction would verify that this did not look like a minor issue. Delhomme says he'll play this week, but I would expect nothing less from him. IMO he is as tough as it gets at his position, and has a high threshold for punishment. Therefore I doubt he would react the way he did for anything minor like a muscle strain, I am guessing its something much more serious. It's probably also a safe bet that whatever the issue is, it will require rest at the very least. Rest on his throwing arm....not exactly a good thing for a QB. We'll know later today, but my money is on ligament ot tendon damage. In his defense, he pretty clearly stated that it was a guess based on the visual and not fact...

Much better than I feared. An MRI showed that Jake Delhomme has no structural damage in his injured throwing elbow. The Panthers are calling him "day to day."
Coach John Fox said Delhomme will need some rehab, but wouldn't rule him out for Week 4 against Tampa Bay. If Delhomme can't go, David Carr will start.
