QB Jameis Winston, NYG (5 Viewers)

Some really great throws in this one.

They didn't let him do much late in the game though. Can't play that way anymore, Lovie. Surprised it didn't cost them.

I'm not in love with the play calling and Jaboo should have hit either ASF or VJax for that 3rd TD....but that looked a little more like what we were accustomed to in Tallahassee. Good to see.

Calm down, Tampa fans. It was the Saints. Every rookie QB looks great against the Saints. Remember Josh whatsisname against the Saints as a rookie? The guy who got cut the next year? Freeman?

No no no the black qb he is compared to here is Jamarcus. Not Freeman. Jamarcus. Sorry.

Josh Freeman was terrible against the Saints as a rookie. Maybe you're confusing him with Bruce Gradkowski?

You can say the same thing about the Tampa defense last week that Mariota faced...oh wait, that doesn't fit the narrative of the comparison the haters here are painting.

I don't recall the Bucs defense having a reputation against rookie qbs, but I'm open to being shown that's the case

Probably. I guess I was thinking of his second season. Posted a 140 passer rating or something against the Saints

I can go with Russell. I mean, I don't think Russell was ever accused of rape, but no comparison is perfect

"The narrative." Lol.

No. People here love "narratives" and "counter-narratives." It's kind of funny.

So what if it's a bad D? That's what he needed. Time to get comfortable and build confidence. Opportunities to make throws. Which he did. There is no way to spin today other than solid and a step in the right direction.

No stick with Freeman. The guy who dominated the saints as you say with 2 touchdowns and 7 turnovers. Quite the story you are breaking here.

You're doing the Lord's work here. Everybody on the boards knows that Henry is a ragingly subconscious racist.

I'm not comparing him to Freeman, I'm reminding everyone that the Saints secondary has usually sucked against rookie QBs for a very long time.

I agree that he took a step in the right direction. He also had some very bad moments today, but that's to be expected from a rookie. Couple of nice touch passes.

That's fine but he took giant steps. That touchdown pass was impossible to defend and was in a perfect place.

I liked the play calling in the 1st half.

So if Winston shreds this NO defense, haters are just gonna be like "wahh, well it's what he should be able to do against such a bad D anyways."

Can't win with the haters.
I don't care who he plays - if he can complete 65% of his passes and throw more TD's than INT's I'll be impressed.
So we can now consider you impressed?
Absolutely. Haven't seen the game yet but from the highlights he played well. The only major error I can see is the fumble.

I'm actually pretty impressed by cstu here. You know how many people ever actually can admit they even might have been wrong on this board?

Seems like he had a pretty good game looking at the box score and watching a few highlights. Would be curious to know if the Saints weren't able to get any pressure. If Winston gets time to set his feet and throw he's dangerous, just like he was behind FSU's line.

Most success was from the pocket. He did complete a 55-yarder though while running out of the pocket to his right down to about the 5. Still jumpy when pressured but the game looks to be slowing down for him some.

Agreed. Kind of makes up s bit for the circle jerk he let himself get caught up in last week.

I've always said he has a great arm, never questioned that. I even drafted him in a dynasty league in case he does learn to avoid mistakes.

Actually, the thing that has impressed me most is his post-game interviews - both last week and this week - no more fake smile. He's finally answering questions like a professional QB. Maybe a light went off after week 1 for him. We'll see.

Can you either stop this or get lod or JRNewbie or whatever in here? I like the crazy better.

Nice to see cstu.

It is weird that troll Lod couldn't carve out 7 consecutive hours to be in here posting the laughing smilie this week. Maybe he is out scouting other QBs to be wrong about?

LOL, this is pathetic. CSTU trying to save so much face this week.

I think that cstu didn't have as much problem with the player as he did with the person.Like a lot of folks.

There were others, but nothing crazy. His stats and highlights should have been better, too - Evans in particular let him down, as I mentioned in the game thread.

Glad to see he played better this week. Hope he continues to develop. The truth is somewhere in the middle on this guy. He's not as good right now as Capella thinks he is and he's not as bad right now as CSTU thinks he is. Less than 250 total yards with 2 tds and a turnover is an ok game, but nothing to go nuts with. Hoping to see great chemistry with Evans and ASJ over the course of the season, as that will be critical to the future of the team.

Actually I missed the 1st half of TV, only listened to Gene (I love the guy...but I think he's starting to lose his touch). 2nd half when they were up I thought there was a little too much try not to lose, set the offense up for failure with that young OLine and QB.

He had a good game today. Not great but quite good and usually good enough to win. I think most reactions in here, including mine, are a big middle finger to all the stupidity (Lod) in here last week.Btw 70% completion percentage and 10 yards per attempt are great numbers, not good. Especially on the road.

You don't have to inflate his numbers. 66.7% is good enough to be happy with.

If you're a Jameis fan, and I am, it's pretty easy to find vindication today because he looked good. He also looked horrible last week. The difference is those who thought he looked good today are seeing it as a good sign and not proclaiming HOF status, while those who saw the bad last week were claiming he'd be out of the league in 2 years.

There were plenty pro-Jameis guys saying he looked horrible last week. Other than cstu none of the anti-Jameis guys have posted this week.

Also oh man i'm really drunk but I have a point i'm just not sure I'm getting there.

They only let him throw it 21 times. ASJ blatant drop which would have been a nice gain. Sideline pass to Evans in stride and he lazily only got one foot down. Tripping on Martin screen. Jameis could have averaged 15 yards an attempt.

He ran a couple times when I think he probably had an open guy, and he took a really bad sack. Other than that he managed the Hell out of that game.

The Saints are really bad on defense. He's going to face a lot more pressure next week. I wouldn't expect much from ASJ. He's going to be helping Smith on Watt all day.

Evans lazily bringing his feet out of bounds was my main concern from last night. Any wideout who puts in that kind of effort sets off the red flags.

You will meet the same fate as the Tebow lover and the Vince Young lover. They spouted off after an weak victory just like you are. I put both in their place, just like I will do to you. So go ahead and have your weak victory while you can.
