I think he fumbled and NE recovered the fumble but there was a penalty against NE on the play so the Giants got the ball back.

I wrote this in the game-thread after the first drive:
Jaxon Dart looked really good on the Giants first drive...definitely sense an "it" factor with him...thought that was an excellent trade for the Giants when they did it...if it works out, they get their QB of the future while still getting Carter and not having to use their #1 next year...could really change that franchise.
I will add he did nothing but continue to impress...he had some absolutely beautiful throws that were dropped (I believe by Hyatt) and the kid has legit athleticism...in SF he is a guy to target now while the price should be somewhat reasonable...watching the game I got the sense his teammates (and the fans) are all in on him...after the failed Daniel Jones experiment the Giant fans have to be excited.

loving what I've seen so far and all the confirmation bias. In a soft rebuild in a 2 QB keeper league. I traded up to get him in the 4th round a few days ago, and if he hits that should get me back on track next year.
I think he starts within the next 2 weeks. Wilson is over.

The fact is, the numbers with and without Andrew Thomas at LT are unbelievably stark, so I wouldn't rush anything til I see him back.

That actually makes a lot of sense on paper but if Wilson continues to struggle like he did today, I'm not sure Daboll lasts until week 10. If I'm trying to hang onto my job in a tough division, I'd give the kid a chance to show what he can do asap. I don't think Jameis is the answer.

Yep. I said this around the second quarter yesterday. Let's hope the line holds up enough so that he doesn't get thrashed and hurt back there.

I believe that wilson does have a somewhat short leash, but not THAT short.
I'd say they would give him a couple more games to see if he can right the ship.

I'll say this, no one I'm hearing in NY, in media, sports talk or among fans, wants Dart... yet. Everyone seems to see that meat grinder of this schedule
The only plus of starting Dart is... clarity... relatively. Either he's the future or you're right back at the top of the draft to take a QB next year.

IMO, Daboll/Schoen need a win, and fast. And I'm, not talking getting to 1-1. Yes, that would help.
But this regime...
- Kicking off their partnership, used the 5th/7th picks in the 22 Draft to select Evan Neal & Kayvon Thibodeaux.
- Followed that up in 2023 with the selection of Deonte Banks. Their performance on Day 2 has been similarly distressing.
- Decided to invest in Daniel Jones instead of Saquon Barkley. Whether that's the 'actual' case...it certainly can be or is perceived that way.
- Broadcast the walking away from Saquon on Hard Knocks which really cratered any potential for an offseason type Hard Knocks to have a Season 2.
- After signing Jones, QB's have ranked; 32nd in TD passes, 31st in passing yards.
- In order to fix the QB situation, brought in Russell Wilson/Jamies Winston...and immediately anointed Wilson the starter. Why?
- Watched the exiled Jones kill it in IND in Week 1 while their anointed veteran starter that was supposed to provide a better level of QB play tanked...unsurprisingly.
...at the same time, all reports out of NYG training camp were of the 'Dart was much further along' variety and it was clear that he generated a spark, optimism and enthusiasm. And we're talking about a QB who has 45 career college starts if I'm not mistaken.
From my POV, Daboll/Schoen have long ago used up their credibility and the idea of Russell Wilson righting a ship seems far-fetched at best. I don't know if Daboll is thinking he's putting Darts needs above his own. But let's look at NE last year...the narrative was ' oh, you can't put Drake Maye behind that OL'. They waited until , what Week 6? Low and behold, hindsight being 20/20...Maye probably could have started from the jump. In Atlanta, while they had invested in Cousins...Penix had tons of college experience and probably could have started from the jump if the situation allowed for it.
The only reason IMO Dart isn't starting THIS week is that it's away game, and they'd prefer a friendlier environment to have him play his first game. And even that seems flimsy.

I also think the other reason dart doesnt start is the O line in New York is terrible. I dont think you are helping his development by putting him behind a leaky line.
I know everyone wants to see the kid, but the best move is to wait until mid season (at the very least)
Let the kid learn a thing or two by watching the games. then start him against an opponent that has a weaker defense so he can get some confidence.

The one thing I would say is that Daboll isn't just Dart's coach...he is the coach of the New York Giants. There was a lot of buzz around the talent on this team being able to actually do some damage this year if they could get solid QB play. That obviously didn't happen Week 1, but it's a continuation of a 2 year trend.
That fact remains, we all know (including Daboll IMO) who Russell Wilson and Jamies Winston are at this point in their careers. And for a team that illicited quite a few 'dark horse' type predictions...continued bad QB likely won't be tolerated outside AND inside of that locker room.
well, if the coach feels his job is in jeopardy, sometimes the right move is to make a change to try and save it. even if thats not necessarily the right move. The dynamics change when the coach is on the hot seat.

the real problem is this team has never been able to fully rebuild the O line. Andrew Thomas, the supposed Anchor is out with a Lis Franc injury. I dont care what anybody says, a Lis Franc injury is pretty serious. Especially if it is serious enough where surgery is needed that would be career threatening.
its a worse injuries for RB but can also be bad for a tackle depending on the nature of the injury and which specific tendons/ligaments are affected.
this in itself could mean the Giants season could be a total writeoff. if he somehow comes back healthy, then they have a chance. but even so, one person cannot make the line. you need at least 2-3 solid players on a line to be passable. I am not optomistic at all. and personally I dont think the problem is with the coach. I'm laying this at the feet of the GM. Hes had plenty of time to sort out this issue and has been unable to do so.

I don't think anyone expects a wild card out of Atlanta either. That said, ATL is much much better on offense, and NYG is better on defense. Overall, I'd take Atl

Real men do the right thing. If that’s the case it is best for Dart to sit at least half the season, better yet if he sits until the last few games if they are not in it.

if you are gonna throw a rookie QB behind a leaky line like this, he needs to not only win the job. he needs to walk up to that closed door and Kick it down. Play so well they cannot justify sitting him.
if hes that impressive, you have to play him. but if you dont think hes got that IT factor, let him sit a bit and work on things to round out his game.
I do know that they may be on the hotseat but you also have an obligation to do the right thing in developing your young QB. sometimes doing things the right way can get you fired in this business but throwing the kid to the wolves behind a leaky line can also ruin the kid as a prospect if hes not fully ready to play at the NFL level. While I fully admit I do not like the way New York has managed this franchise, this may be one of the first decisions theyve made recently that I can get behind. (provided they stick to it)

Anyone throwing FAAB at him this week? I imagine he's widely owned in dynasty, and probably even SF; so more of a 1QB redraft side. With all of the injuries and underperforming QBs, hard not to fantasize a bit about his upside. I mean at the very least, we don't really KNOW he's going to stink despite the Giants other issues lol. Russ had a hell of a game week 2 fantasy wise. Not that you'd add him and start him this week either, but I have several leagues where I'm strongly considering cutting a bad/injured backup to take a swing. Just not sure what to bid... Also doesn't help I'm in the north east, so if I actually want him, it can't be some 5-10% of FAAB to win. If he can just not turn the ball over, run for his life for 30-40 yards and slide to safety, and throw it in Nabers general direction 15 times a game, he'll probably be ~ QB15 or so with how this year is unfolding so far.
the Giants next 6 games are Chargers, at Saints, Eagles, Broncos, Eagles again, and Niners

Interesting that this is the weekend Dart becomes the starter as Ole MIss hosts LSU in Oxford this weekend. 2 years ago, Dart played perhaps his best college game when Ole Miss upset LSU in a game that featured Jayden Daniels, BTJ and Malik Nabers on the other side which if I remember correctly was also a late September tilt.
