Tom Brady expected to start against Panthers

Tom Brady - QB - NE - Dec. 13 - 9:00 a.m. ET

ESPN's John Clayton reports that Tom Brady (finger, ribs, shoulder) "should" be able to start Sunday's game against Carolina.

Brady only got in "limited" practice work at the end of the week after his wife gave birth to their second child. It's unclear if his absence from Wednesday and Thursday's practices was related to injury or excused for family responsibilities. In a pretty good indication that Brady isn't in danger of sitting out, the Pats did not add a quarterback to their active roster this week. They only have undrafted rookie Brian Hoyer behind Brady.

NFL.com just reported that there is no guarantee he starts today. They didn't really elaborate much, so will have to wait till past 12:30 PM to see what the real deal it. I can't imagine he doesn't, but now am worries about his production and possibility of him leaving the game after taking a bad hit...

UPDATE : NFL Network reports that there's still some doubt that QB Tom Brady will be able to play in Week 14 vs. the Panthers. Brady is questionable for the game with shoulder, finger and rib injuries that limited him in practice this week. "It's not a given that he will play," said NFL Network's Jason La Canfora said Sunday morning

CBS has added the NFL Network report to the player news:

Tom Brady, QB NENews: NFL Network reports that there's still some doubt that QB Tom Brady will be able to play in Week 14 vs. the Panthers. Brady is questionable for the game with shoulder, finger and rib injuries that limited him in practice this week. "It's not a given that he will play," said NFL Network's Jason La Canfora said Sunday morning. Brian Hoyer, an undrafted rookie, would make his first NFL start if Brady can't go.Analysis: We don't mean to put a chill into your spine here, but it's possible that Brady is sidelined for Week 14. Now it's very possible that the Patriots are using gamesmanship with their injury report and that Brady will be fine, but your best bet is to have a backup plan in place just in case Brady is ruled inactive. We'll be first to know whether or not he'll be active today on Fantasy Football Today, 11 a.m. ET here on CBSSports.com.

Tom Brady will play in today's game against the Panthers, according to Adam Schefter's (ESPN) twitter page.

Brady active; Neal, Taylor out

Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff December 13, 2009 11:32 AM

Tom Brady is officially set to go for today's game, but the Patriots did not get back guard Steve Neal or running back Fred Taylor. Third wide receiver Sam Aiken is also out, and Myron Pryor's being ruled out makes the Patriots thin on the defensive line against a powerful Carolina running game.

Here's the full list:

CB Terrence Wheatley

RB Fred Taylor

G Rich Ohrnberger

G Steve Neal

WR Sam Aiken

DL Myron Pryor

LB Adalius Thomas

DL Ron Brace
