QB news from John Clayton (1 Viewer)

Does anyone have the conract amount left on Culpy's contract> I know he is due 6 mil in April, but what are the yearly numbers. This is THE factor that goes into teh decision process for a team like Miami to trade for him. If the total nut left is $60 mil + the $6 mil bonus for the next 8 years I say where do I sign. I would like to see how it is structured though as I may want to release him for the final 2 years and not pay ($10 mil?) a year? We can talk all we want but without these exact numbers it is like trying to predict what Culpy's year will look like NEXT year.

Help anyone?

But why are the Vikings so gung-ho to get rid of Culpepper? QBs of his caliber aren't that easy to find.
Daunte Culpepper is due a $6,000,000 bonus on March 14th and is only 3 months removed from major reconstructive surgery to repair the ACL, MCL and PCL in his right knee. He also wants to renegotiate his already large contract to put additional Zygi Wilf funds in his bank account.
Didn't he foot the tab for the boat cruise last year? If you figure the media only catches on to about 1/10 of what really goes on...Daunte needs lots more dough to keep his posse in biatches.
Way to live up to your nickname Captain...

Just curious if the Culpepper/Vikings fans who wanted to run me off the board last year for suggesting that Roethlisberger had a brighter future than Culpepper, particularly when the latter lost Randy Moss, would accept a Culpepper/Roethlisberger swap if offered now? Yeah, I know the Culpepper injury factors into it, but let's face facts, he was playing terrible football even before that. I watched that Cincinnati game and it was embarassing.

Miami signing (a healthy) Brees would be sweet.
Yeah.. I'd love to see this too - Miami gets QB and who knows what could happen.
I like this as well, with Ronnie Brown, Brees, Chambers and McMichael the fins offense looks solid.
If Miami signs Brees, they are a couple of draft picks away from being a legitimate force in the AFC as early as 2007.

Neither was Kerry Collins with Moss.

Maybe the Raiders should go after Daunte?
They cant afford him
They could probably afford Aaron Brooks who since 2000 has only 15 less overall Tds than Culpepper and plays on a more consistant level.
They could afford him more than they could Collins or C.Woodson. Cut Collins, and resign Woodson in order to trade for CPep.

Brooks and consistent in the same sentence is comical, unless of course you meant "consistently awful".

As an LT/Gates owner: :sadbanana:
As a Rivers owner (and NOT a LT/Gates owner)
for a guy with ten completions to his name, you've got a lot of rfaith in the unproven Phil Rivers, huh?lol
As a Rivers owner, my  is purely about him getting the opportunity to play and develop. That is all you can ask for from a untested QB. It helps that SD has a strong supporting cast to help Rivers succeed. He may flop. He may take off. Either way, that's better than having sit on the bench to rot for another year or three.

Viking fans may be willing to trade Culpepper for Dilfer as well.

Yep. I was looking to see if Hendo would respond - I think he was the one telling me Roethlisberger would never even approach Culpepper as an NFL or fantasy QB. Wondering if he changed his tune.

Let me know if I made any ridiculous statements so I can eat some crow too. I think I am pretty safe when it comes to Roethlisberger topic.

Culpepper- if they can not trade him, Clayton suggested they would release him. Interested teams were the ones we've already heard (Miami, Baltimore, etc)
The Dolphins have held talks with the Minnesota Vikings over the past week about a possible trade involving Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Two sources confirmed the talks, with one saying the Vikings have approached ''a limited number of teams'' about Culpepper. No terms about a possible deal were available, however one source said the price for Culpepper will be more than the second-round pick that both The Minneapolis Star Tribune and Profootballtalk.com reported last week.

The Dolphins are extremely interested in Culpepper among a short list of veterans they might take a look at. Among the others are Tennessee's Steve McNair and Washington backup Patrick Ramsey.

Collins is an idiot.
Yes he is, but let's talk about his performance instead. :) Him "sucking" is/was overblown IMO. In fact he and Moss were looking like a good combo till Moss got hurt.....yeah minimal TDs, but tons o yds, and he kept the INTs way down. No I wouldn't pay him a lot, but I'd rather a healthy Collins over a gimpy Culpepper easily.
Collins "suck level" is underrated. I did say he throws a good deep ball, and a good long ball-and that is it! Dude throws 7 yard swing passes to his FB as hard as he throws his 45 yard post passes. He has no command of velocity and trajectory in order to make a catchable ball. Not every offensive player has the hands to control the fastball, let alone an off-target fastball that leaves a reciever hanging out to dry over the middle or on the 10 yard outs. Decision making is also VERY poor, multiplied by his panic whenever pressured due to his being the 3rd least mobile QB behind Bledsoe and Manning.
I have watched a lot of Collins over the years as a Giant fan. He is a decent QB. I would say that he is in the top 15 in the league. he throws a great deep ball and a very good long out pattern. he also throws a good seem pass and can stay in the pocket and take a beating (Durability is a plus). Downsides are that he can't scramble, isn't that bright and can fumble too often. Overall, about the 10-15th best in the league. He is better than people think and has been to a championship game and a SB.
