Atlanta would be a very interesting fit if it comes to fruition. Ridder might not have a long term future and it’s obviously a very run heavy team.I hope Lance gets an actual opportunity and sticks it to the 49ers. I'd love it if he went to Tampa, Atlanta, or even Minnesota.

I would agree if forced to bet on the outcome. There are only 32 starters in the world. That's a tough fraternity to break into.I don’t see anything resembling this happening.hope Lance gets an actual opportunity and sticks it to the 49ers
I'd rather have Lance than Ridder. Ridder is a bum. Please god noAtlanta would be a very interesting fit if it comes to fruition. Gee, did you think of that one by yourself? Nobody has made the argument that Purdy isn't better. He's greatPurdy is the starter because he’s a significantly better QB.Lance is way better than Brandon Allen and everyone knows it. It might be good for a laugh or endear you to some posters, but it's not even close to a fact.
He was good enough at football to be the starter over Jimmy going into last season, so there's that.
Totally wrong. Kyle had a team with super bowl aspirations and wasn't starting Lance because of his draft capital. He started him because he thought he was an upgrade from Jimmy. Jimmy only came back after they couldn't trade him and he took a massive pay cut. If Jimmy was better, Jimmy would have been the starter week 1.He was drafted high enough to be given the start over Jimmy. He was never better than Jimmy. He was never a capable QB, and the play calling showed it.
Again, totally wrong. So many more components go into this and you know it. It just shows how far off base you will go to try to make your off base pointIf he beat out Brandon Allen, he’d be the QB3 right now.
While most of your posting is solid, you are so far off base here.Sometimes this stuff isn’t that complicated. I’m a Niners fan. I wish it were different.
Yes.Why? Will Levis just got drafted at pick 33 in the 2023 draft. He's a year older than Lance. You think Lance is worth less than Will Levis?I think if SF could get a third, they'd do carwheels. If I’m the Vikings, I pay as much as a 3rd. All in if they can get him for that or less.

/topicthe problem is he isn't good enough to play
You can say that about a lot of young QBs. Lance is 23. Levis looks like crap and can't beat out Willis who looked like total crap last year. The fact that Levis threw 630 passes in college is meaningless as far as his potential going forward. Makes Zero sense.Yes.Why? Will Levis just got drafted at pick 33 in the 2023 draft. He's a year older than Lance. You think Lance is worth less than Will Levis?I think if SF could get a third, they'd do carwheels. If I’m the Vikings, I pay as much as a 3rd. All in if they can get him for that or less.
Levis has thrown 630 passes over the last two seasons, Lance has 420 over the last five. Levis is, by far, more ready to suit up in an NFL game.
Lance won't improve if he can't play, the problem is he isn't good enough to play. Very few teams can afford to bring in what is effectively a roster clogger and bring him along slowly.
Lance was good enough to start for the 49ers last year. Just stop with this narrative. Lance got hurt, Purdy balled out, and the 49ers are ridding themselves of any continued controversy.Yes.Why? Ridder is worlds better than Lance ATM. Light years ahead. 54 starts in college and Atlanta over the last five years with 1,400+ attempts, Lance has 22 over the same span with 420 attempts.I’d rather have a better QB than both. It's not meaningless at all. Levis has fresh, valuable live game reps that Lance simply does not. Preseason performances are meaningless particularly with the third string. You can say that about a lot of young QBs. Lance is 23. Was he? Was he really? I am sorry you feel that way but it's true. I am not sure there is a team in the NFL he walks into and becomes the #2 QB right now.Quite possibly the worst take in this thread and that's saying a lot. It's not meaningless at all. Lance is an idea at this point, not a football player.
Well of course there was some question due to his inexperience, but the head coach of a successful team thought it was a good idea, so I'll go with that over what anyone on this board would think. Unfortunately for him he got hurt so that question wasn't answered. Fortunately for the team, Jimmy got hurt too and the Brock Purdy experience happened. Was he? Was he really? I think @Wingnut is the guy to ask here but I seem to remember a lot of questions being asked about Lance's readiness for that role.Lance was good enough to start for the 49ers last year. Regardless, he did get hurt and had another wasted season getting no live reps. Dude is so raw his nickname should be Tartare. I truly feel for him because he apparently has some legitimate physical tools. He will get another shot, I am certain of that but he is the same project QB he was coming out of college.
Tampa Bay, Cleveland, and Tennessee just to name a few. You could argue Atlanta, Dallas, Buffalo, Arizona, and many more. The NFL is a QB-starved league.I am sorry you feel that way but it's true. They were done with Jimmy G too don't forget. Possibly twice. This isn't the first time he didn't meet expectations. This is the best news Lance owners could hope for. Yet another case of injury creating an opportunity for others and them seizing it. It's just an unfortunate situation that became prickly due to all the politics of the trade three years ago.
I hope Lance gets an actual opportunity and sticks it to the 49ers. I'd love it if he went to Tampa, Atlanta, or even Minnesota.

I don't get your stick it to the Niners narrative. He's been given chances upon chances. What's he to be angry about?
I don’t believe this for a minute, honestly.Lance was good enough to start for the 49ers last year

And for the fact that he wasn’t able to QB the team & Purdy was. They basically kicked him to the curb for Purdy because of injury.

I didn't know Allen was QB1 and QB2. He probably is which makes my point about Lance being better than Barkley.
We all heard the camp reports. We all saw the writing on the wall. Everyone was nervous that JimmyG was leaving because reports out of camp were deeply concerning. Lance wasn’t as fast on his feet as expected. Lance had processing challenges making reads. Etc, etc.Was he? Was he really? I think @Wingnut is the guy to ask here but I seem to remember a lot of questions being asked about Lance's readiness for that role.
It's not usually a surprise to players when they're beaten out. Those that say it is often recant that some time after too.You wouldn't have a chip on your shoulder if you were Lance? It'd be wild if Purdy comes out and stinks. It's unlikely due to the talent around him. It's still a possibility.
No they weren't. You act like they had to answer to their fans. They played Lance because they thought he had the better chance to get them over the top. They lost a super bowl and an NFC championship game because they had such a huge disadvantage at QB. Shanahan plays who he thinks has the best chance to make the team win. To say he listened to the fanbase is ludicrous. lol
IMO the 49ers were under tremendous pressure to start him because of sunk cost.
They had to not only find out (I suspect they already knew) but show the world he wasn’t good enough. There was public outcry to start Lance. They paid so much - had to find out., yada yada yada.
But again, the 49ers saw him at practice. They knew.
Once Purdy showed out there was no reason to pretend any more. They have their starter. Lance was a bad pick. Time for the team to move on.
100%. I had Lance, Mitchell, Deebo and Kittle (over two leagues) and closely followed it all. Hot Sauce is spot on with this.We all heard the camp reports. We all saw the writing on the wall. There was more to the JimmyG re-signing than face value.
No. They didn't resign Jimmy until he took a massive pay cut and couldn't get anything better than what a comp pick would equal. They wanted a backup in case their young QB who was expected to run a fair amount got hurt. Again a team with super bowl aspirations didn't want to leave it in the hands of Nate Sudfeld. It was a great move after Jimmy agreed to the pay cut.100%. I had Lance, Mitchell, Deebo and Kittle (over two leagues) and closely followed it all. I agree. I said Lance would be on par or better than many teams QB2.Ah, apologies, I missed that part."I am sorry you feel that way but it's true. I am not sure there is a team in the NFL he walks into and becomes the #2 QB right now."Did Josh Allen retire?Buffalo
I didn't know Allen was QB1 and QB2. He probably is which makes my point about Lance being better than Barkley.
I don’t think he’s good enough to back up Josh Allen. I don’t see any contending team placing a wager that if [Allen, LJax, Burrow, Hurts, etc] goes down, Trey Lance is their ace in the hole to win a SB with their win-now roster.
If he were, he’d be the QB2 on the Niners, right?
As such, i would remove any contending/win-now team from the list.

Purdy was great, which is a good thing for team and the fan base but they didn't even know what they had or he would have been playing sooner.
If Lance is dealt and Allen is on the team, you have your answer.Waiting for the Brandon Allen beat out Lance link.
I hadn't thought about the QB2 landscape much until Chaka brought it up. It's a dumpster fire.If any of those guys go down for the season, their teams aren't winning the super bowl regardless of who the back-up is.Ah, apologies, I missed that part."I am sorry you feel that way but it's true. I dunno about that. And it’s not a zero sum equation. If any of those guys go down for the season, their teams aren't winning the super bowl regardless of who the back-up is.
No, I wouldn’t. If they trade Lance they’ll get draft picks and/or cap relief that they won’t get from moving Allen. Allen took his first snaps in live action in weeks today, there’s no way he beat anybody out. There’s evidence for the Lance isn’t good at football narrative but you and a couple other folks in here are engaging in a lot of hyperbole. If Lance is dealt and Allen is on the team, you have your answer.Waiting for the Brandon Allen beat out Lance link.
I honestly don’t see it as political. IMO Darnold is a decent QB who’s had terrible teams around him.I agree. I'll give you your kudos about saying Darnold would beat out Lance. I didn't think that would happen and whiffed hard. Personally, I think it's more political, and the 49ers did not want to deal with continued questions about Lance heading into the season as one of the favorites to win the SB. Imagine the stress this has on Lynch, Shanahan, Purdy, and all the players. The media loves drama. They would've milked it all season.
Then what is "public outcry'? lolI’m not saying they listened to the fan base.No they weren't. You act like they had to answer to their fans. Lynch and Shanahan have made it clear that Jed has no input on the football side. Both you exit immediately if he had any serious input. They do show him public respect which Harbaugh didn't do, but he had no say in any of this.I believe there was pressure both externally and internally to find out what Lance had.
IMO ownership was also putting pressure on Shanny/Lynch. That had a lot more to do with it.
And to the extent that ownership feels the heat from the fan base (which is not nothing) I believe that may have influenced it a bit.
It’s a fantasy football forum. Hyperbole is our lifeblood.but you and a couple other folks in here are engaging in a lot of hyperbole.

As I said, it does put pressure on ownership to put pressure on coaches/GM.Then what is "public outcry'? lol
Maybe, maybe not, but the Ravens aren't winning a super bowl with Huntley which was my point. Bills aren't winning if Allen gets goes out for season. Same with all the other teams.I dunno about that. And it’s not a zero sum equation. If any of those guys go down for the season, their teams aren't winning the super bowl regardless of who the back-up is.
Does Lance give the Ravens a better chance than Huntley? I think not.

No it doesn't. Fans care if the team wins or not. Didn't hear a single fan saying they hoped Jimmy made it back for the playoffs last year.As I said, it does put pressure on ownership to put pressure on coaches/GM.Then what is "public outcry'? lol
