Ridder is worlds better than Lance ATM. Light years ahead. 54 starts in college and Atlanta over the last five years with 1,400+ attempts, Lance has 22 over the same span with 420 attempts.

I feel for Lance, I really do. Had he remained healthy last season his story would be a lot different but, at this point he's entering his third NFL season and still a raw project QB.

Well of course there was some question due to his inexperience, but the head coach of a successful team thought it was a good idea, so I'll go with that over what anyone on this board would think. Unfortunately for him he got hurt so that question wasn't answered. Fortunately for the team, Jimmy got hurt too and the Brock Purdy experience happened.

If Purdy had never gotten a chance, he may still be the 3rd string QB. Just goes to show that a lot of shiot happens that even the best coaches aren't aware will happen. If Shanahan thought Purdy was going to be as good as he was, he wouldn't have waited for Jimmy to go down.

I'll give you your kudos about saying Darnold would beat out Lance. I didn't think that would happen and whiffed hard. Personally, I think it's more political, and the 49ers did not want to deal with continued questions about Lance heading into the season as one of the favorites to win the SB. IMO the 49ers were under tremendous pressure to start him because of sunk cost.

They had to not only find out (I suspect they already knew) but show the world he wasn’t good enough. There was public outcry to start Lance. They paid so much - had to find out., yada yada yada.

But again, the 49ers saw him at practice. They knew.

Once Purdy showed out there was no reason to pretend any more. They have their starter. Lance was a bad pick. Time for the team to move on.

No they weren't. You act like they had to answer to their fans. They played Lance because they thought he had the better chance to get them over the top. They lost a super bowl and an NFC championship game because they had such a huge disadvantage at QB. Shanahan plays who he thinks has the best chance to make the team win. To say he listened to the fanbase is ludicrous. lol

Purdy was great, which is a good thing for team and the fan base but they didn't even know what they had or he would have been playing sooner.

I’m not saying they listened to the fan base.

I believe there was pressure both externally and internally to find out what Lance had.

IMO ownership was also putting pressure on Shanny/Lynch. That had a lot more to do with it.

And to the extent that ownership feels the heat from the fan base (which is not nothing) I believe that may have influenced it a bit.

I don’t think he’s good enough to back up Josh Allen. I don’t see any contending team placing a wager that if [Allen, LJax, Burrow, Hurts, etc] goes down, Trey Lance is their ace in the hole to win a SB with their win-now roster.

I hadn't thought about the QB2 landscape much until Chaka brought it up. It's a dumpster fire.

No, I wouldn’t. If they trade Lance they’ll get draft picks and/or cap relief that they won’t get from moving Allen. Allen took his first snaps in live action in weeks today, there’s no way he beat anybody out. There’s evidence for the Lance isn’t good at football narrative but you and a couple other folks in here are engaging in a lot of hyperbole.

I agree. I said Lance would be on par or better than many teams QB2.

I'll give you your kudos about saying Darnold would beat out Lance. I didn't think that would happen and whiffed hard. Personally, I think it's more political, and the 49ers did not want to deal with continued questions about Lance heading into the season as one of the favorites to win the SB. Imagine the stress this has on Lynch, Shanahan, Purdy, and all the players. The media loves drama. They would've milked it all season.

I honestly don’t see it as political. IMO Darnold is a decent QB who’s had terrible teams around him.

He finally went to a team with weapons and able coaching & he’s looking pretty good.

He was a very good QB coming out of college. I wasn’t thinking it was a super bold call when I made it, but I appreciate that.

Lynch and Shanahan have made it clear that Jed has no input on the football side. Both you exit immediately if he had any serious input. They do show him public respect which Harbaugh didn't do, but he had no say in any of this.

Maybe, maybe not, but the Ravens aren't winning a super bowl with Huntley which was my point. Bills aren't winning if Allen gets goes out for season. Same with all the other teams.
