QB Win Stats (1 Viewer)

A friend just asked me how a QB is assigned a win and I have to say despite my fandom I'm not sure i really know. It's never seemed to have the sacred mumbo jumbo associated with baseball wins but there have to be some criteria right?

Is it the start? (Did Cassel get the win when Brady went down?)

Is it the finish? (I'm sure Sorgi does not get wins for kneeling.)

How does it work?

It is my belief that the QB is assigned the win if he was the QB of record at the time his team took the lead.so if Manning starts for the giants. They are down 3 points and manning has to leave the game for an equipment adjustment.Carr starts the next drive and throws a TD Pass.Provided the Giants remain in the lead for the rest of the game, he gets credit for the win.If the giants lose the lead, and then regain it while Eli is back at QB, then Eli gets the win.

That would make some sense, but then you'd think you'd hear more about it in a Wildcat or trick play situation...would Ronnie Brown get the credit far a win for having thrown the pass or does Pennington get it for being the QB on the field even though he lined up wide?

Funny how I've never thought of it or really ever heard it discussed.

Ronnie brown was not the QB of record. he was a RB running the wildcat. The QB of record would still be Pennington.

I believe the starting QB gets the win or loss and nothing else matters. Brady got credit for the win in the game he got hurt even though the score was 0-0.
