QBBC Strategy w/ This Year's Depth (1 Viewer)

I've already decided to go the route of waiting on a QB this year. I was wondering, to those of you who are planning a QBBC, how many QBs are you going to draft given the depth of the position this year? I was thinking of just grabbing two QBs just outside of the top 12 (I'm doing an auction so hoping to get them very cheap early on).

Unless there are 3 guys you really like, I don't see the necessity on wasting a 3rd roster spot on a QB when you may very well end up dropping that 3rd QB for a FA QB come week 2.

Thoughts/opinions on this? To my fellow QBBC believers, what is your plan?

QB's are so cheap this year that I've been bucking trends and taking 2 top 12 guys (RG3 and Kaepernick, for example) if the value is right. Helps offset bust risk, with added bonus of screwing up those who wait too long.

In a 12-team league, I don't think there's any need to go in to your draft planning on a QBBC strategy. With Luck and Romo generally being the guys picked at 11 and 12, you can probably wait for everyone else in your league to take a QB and still walk away with a strong starter.

In a larger league, I like one of Freeman, Bradford, or Schaub as cheap pieces to pair with Cutler.

This year you could argue that there are a dozen tier 1 and tier 2 QBs available (BTW, that is the most I've ever seen), with guys like Eli, Ben, Cutler, Dalton becoming the start of tier 3. In a recent 14 team no trade, no waiver pick-ups "best-ball" re-draft format, I loaded up on RBs and TEs (TE premium of 1.5 PPR), completely ignoring QBs and WRs, while almost everyone else picked one of the tier 1 or tier 2 QBs as well as at least one elite WR.

I did analyze the QBs. I knew that Eli and Cutler were a hand-in-glove fit for a late QBBC. I took my 1st two WRs (Decker and De Jackson) in the 6th & 7th round in the 14 teamer, and then attacked my QB position followed by Eli in the 8th, and then Cutler. I believe that i will get the same or better production from the QB position than those owners who picked the tier 1 & tier 2 guys. At the same time, I was able to gain the advantage and squeeze the owners who ignored the RBs and TEs early.

Here is how the schedules of Eli and Cutler mesh. :

..............Eli...match-up......Cutler...match-up...est. yds best match-up

WK 1.....DAL....neutral.........CIN......neutral..........285 (JAY)

WK 2.....DEN...neutral.........MIN......neutral .........270 (ELI)

WK 3.....CAR...neutral.........PIT......negative.......240 (ELI)

WK 9.....BYE......................GB.......neutral....... ..285 (JAY)

WK 10...OAK...neutral.........DET.....neutral..........285 (JAY)

WK 11...GB.....neutral.........BAL.....negative......260 (ELI)

WK 12...DAL...neutral.........STL.....neutral...........280 (ELI)

WK 13...WAS..positive......MIN.....neutral...........325 (ELI)

WK 14...SD.....neutral........DAL.....neutral............265 (ELI)

WK 15...SEA,,negative.....CLE.....neutral.......... 260 (JAY)

WK 16...DET...neutral........ PHI.....positive.........295 (JAY)

I didn't really add up and compare the numbers with other scenarios, but I'd wager that my QBBC approach will beat most of the guys who took a tier 1 or tier 2 starting QB and then a lessor QB as a back-up.

My WRs are Decker, Jackson, V Brown, G Tate, McCluster and Boyce (we start a minimum of 3). There's more than one way to skin the cat, and in a 14 teamer with premium TE scoring, I believe that this approach was optimum given the scoring rules and how this draft went down.

No reason to do QBBC in a 12 team league. Just be the last guy to take a QB and do it in Round 7 or 8 based on your league's history of when they take QBs.

The reason would be to get an extra upside RB/WR/TE in the 7th/8th if you think that will help your team more than the delta bw say Romo and the median case scenario of say an eli/vick/manuel combo. Another couple of reasons I point out in the article: little to no competition for any early season WW wonders at QB and QB will be the easiest position to fix via trade.

If it were a best ball format I'm totally on board. But I think owners with an Eli/Vick/Manuel QBBC will quite often pick the wrong the starter where the Romo owner will get consistent QB1 numbers.

I looked at a recent ADP chart. Basically it's would rather have Romo and Lance Moore or Eli and Greg Jennings. Or Romo and E. Sanders or Eli and TY Hilton. I can see both sides of those pairs so it's not a given either way.

I was planning on waiting to take the 10-12th QB in all my leagues, but in some yahoo leagues the default scoring is 4pt/td and 25yds/1 point which caused me to take Kap at the 4.12/5.1 turn. There was no one that stood out at me at that turn (took Gronk with the other pick) so I bit the bullet and hope Kap's rushing numbers will push him to top 3-5 status in these leagues.

I'm conflicted because in the two leagues Ive drafted in so far and the tons of mocks i've been doing, Brady, Stafford and Ryan are going super late (imo); as far as late 6th early 7th in 12 team leagues (6pt all tds).

I'm a huge proponent of QBBC and the fact that even some of the elite QBs are slipping means that you can get a nice committee of non-elite QBs EVEN LATER than in previous seasons. But I find myself unable to pass up Brady, Stafford or Ryan in the 6th/7th - the value is just too good in my opinion.

Ive been liking taking RG3 in the 8th/9th and Dalton in the 11th/12th. If RG3 goes early I like Eli or Ben with Dalton, or just Eli and Ben. Eli is going around the 10th and Ben is going around the 11/12th. Obviously won't get away with this in a high-roller or super competitive league, but I think few of us are in those.

Anybody doing this and how's it going?

And: can it still be done?

What I the most favorable matchup schedule for say 2 QBs that we would not consider QB1's?
