Quality Wins & Significant Losses (1 Viewer)

Lousy Attention Whore
Working under the basic assumption that a winning record equates to a good team, and a losing record equates to a bad team, I have put together modified records for the current 2006 NFL season - adding a win for a quality win (against a team with a winning record or .500 team on the road) and adding a loss for a significant loss (to a team with a losing record or .500 team at home).

Here's the current records of each team, their quality wins (QW), significant losses (SL), and modified record:

6-0

Chicago QW - Min/A, Sea/H (8-0)

5-0

Indianapolis QW - NYG/A, Jax/H, NYJ/A (8-0)

5-1

New Orleans QW - Atl/H, PHI/H (7-1)

4-1

New England QW - Cin/A, NYJ/A (6-1)

Seattle QW - NYG/H, StL/A (6-1)

Denver QW - NE/A, Bal/H (6-1)

San Diego

4-2

Carolina QW - NO/H, Bal/H (6-2)

Baltimore QW - SD/H (5-2)

Philadelphia QW - Dal/H (5-2)

St. Louis QW - Den/H (5-2)

3-2

NY Giants QW - Phi/A, Atl/A (5-2)

Atlanta QW - Car/A (4-2)

Minnesota QW - Car/H, SL - Buf/A (4-3)

Jacksonville QW - Dal/H, SL - Was/A (4-3)

Cincinnati QW - KC/A, SL - TB/A (4-3)

Dallas

3-3

NY Jets

2-3

Pittsburgh

Kansas City SL - Pit/A (2-4)

2-4

Washington QW - Jax/H, SL - Ten/A (3-5)

San Francisco QW - StL/H, SL - Az/A (3-5)

Buffalo QW - Minn/H, SL - NYJ/H, Det/A (3-6)

1-4

Tampa Bay QW - Cin/H (2-4)

Cleveland

Green Bay

Houston SL - Mia/H (1-5)

1-5

Arizona SL - KC/H (1-6)

Tennessee SL - Mia/A (1-6)

Detroit SL - GB/H (1-6)

Miami SL - Pit/A, Buf/H, Hou/A (1-8)

I need a little help decoding the numbers here...

The top numbers are the modified records?

The teams after the QW/SL indicate who the win or loss was against?

The /A and /H mean home and away? How is this used in the analysis?

What do the record at the end of the row mean?

4-2Carolina QW - NO/H, Bal/H (6-2)Baltimore QW - SD/H (5-2)Philadelphia QW - Dal/H (5-2)St. Louis QW - Den/H (5-2)
FWIW, Carolina's win against BAL was away not home. I don't know if that changes anything?

Sorry about that. The numbers above the teams are their current records. The teams after QW or SL are the team that was beaten or lost to. /A = away, /H = home. A quality win adds another win to their record; a significant loss adss another loss to their record. The numbers in brackets at the end of the row would be that modified record. It's cheesy, but I guess it's something. If nothing else, it's a quick guide to see who is doing well against winning teams and poorly against losing teams.

It would only change something if Baltimore was a .500 team. A win on the road to a .500 team would be considered a quality win. A loss at home to a .500 team would be considered a signifcant loss. Any other result regarding a .500 team would not modify a team's record.
