Quarterbacks in the First Round (1 Viewer)

Interesting read, might have some fantasy implications as well...

Interesting. No quarterback picked lower than 11th in the last 20 drafts has made a Pro Bowl
While interesting, I'd file that more under "trivia" than "valuable information".Only 13 QBs have been drafted in the first round and lower than 11th in the past 20 drafts. Why did they use lower than 11th? Two QBs -- Roethlisberger and Culpepper -- made the Pro Bowl and were drafted 11th. Why did they use 20 drafts? Two QBs -- Chris Miller and Jim Harbaugh -- were drafted in the first round and lower than 11th, 21 drafts ago. And of those 13 QBs drafted that didn't make the pro bowl, eight of them are still active. Three of those have started twenty games or fewer (Campbell, Rodgers, Quinn), so they aren't really fair examples. Of the other five, one led the league in passer rating (Pennington) and one made a Super Bowl (Grossman); only Ramsey, Losman and Boller have been busts, and the book is far from written on them, too.

And do you really want to differentiate Patrick Ramsey (pick #32) with Drew Brees (pick #32) or Brett Favre (pick #33)? By arbitrarily picking round 1 QBs, last twenty years, and only after pick 11, we leave out Brees, Favre, Roethlisberger, Culpepper, Miller and Harbaugh.

Interesting, but really just trivia.

Interesting since I saw the same information done days before that one in a different article about the Browns QB controversy. This data went back to the year 2000 and broke down the rounds by the first dozen QBs taken.http://www.theclevelandfan.com/article_detail.php?id=3110

... Brady Quinn

Quinn was selected in the bottom half of the first round but Savage tried trading up as early as the 12th pick for Quinn. First round quarterbacks have a higher success rate over QBs taken lower and selecting one at the top of the first round provides an even greater success. From 2000 to 2007 their have been 21 first round quarterbacks with 13 chosen in the first dozen picks. Of the 8 selected after the 12th pick only Chad Pennington made the Pro Bowl and directed his team to the post season. Of the 13 quarterbacks selected in the first dozen picks, six have made the Pro Bowl and directed their teams to the post season. Quinn was taken later in the first but it could be argued Phil was willing to take him in the first dozen picks which holds the highest successful track record of recent first round QBs.
