Quebec City: tell me about it (1 Viewer)

I did a search and saw some passing mentions of it in other threads about cannuckistan, but this thread is ALL QC, ALL THE TIME.

May be headed there in the fall. Where to stay? What to see/do? Will be me, the wife and a 4YO with us.

Wife and I went a couple of times before we got married.

Cold as the witch's teat (in winter). We stayed in that castley thing in the middle up on the hill- really nice. I loved the place- pretty small, and mix of the old-world jtype of city (planning-wise) that you don't see in the US and new. Some good food there too, IIRC. Skiing close by. Great place to visit. Like going to France, without the icky french people and without paying for the big trip.

I went there last Feb for their winter carnival with my family. We stayed at the Chateau Frontenac which is located centrally but is a little dated.

I used to go bird hunting near QC but havent spent a lot of time outside of winter.

that's the place

I mentioned in another thread, but we stayed here while in Quebec. Loved the city, feels like you're in a European city. Great walking city, tons of restaurants.

would we need a car there? I'm guessing not.
If you're staying in the city, then I'd say no.
True, if you're staying in the city you probably won't need a car - it's not a huge city.

That said, I do recommend checking out some of the nearby countryside - some really nice scenery.

Parc de la Chute-Montmorency is a really nice spot not too far away with a big waterfall where you can hike, etc. http://www.sepaq.com/ct/pcm/index.dot?language_id=1

I was there a few weeks ago with my family for my daughter's soccer tournament. We rented a house in the old city through Air BNB and were very happy. I can provide further details if you'd like.

Watch that newish Bourdain show on CNN, where he visits Canada.. He goes to Quebec City and goes from some crazy food adventures.

The most oldschool european city in north america. gorgeous. great food. expensive.

Les sales Gosses

La gueule de bois

and my absolute fave (but very famous, so reserve well ahead) iX Pour Bistro... they have really crazy/strange hours, so really do call ahead. was there for a week,a nd they were only open once that I knew of, and we went in near the end of service. awesome.

Time to bump this thread.  Wife and I are thinking of going to QC for a week during the first week of July.  Looks like there is a festival that starts July 6 and lasts for 10 days so we would likely hit the start of that.  Other than that any thoughts on things to do, best places to stay/eat, neighboring towns to visit?

Not sure of your budget but I still highly recommend the hotel I posted above.
