Question about a league (1 Viewer)

This seems pretty damn cut and dry to me but here is how the playoffs are said to be run as of right now in our rules

Playing multiple teams per week (4 teams per week)

15 week regular season

2 week playoffs

2 Divisions

4 Play-off Berths

I am 2nd place in one division but points wise the other division has more than two teams ahead of me. The playoff brackets come out and he sent three teams from one division and one team from my division.

I obviously think that having 2 division means two go from each no matter what the points, oh yea and the third team in other division happens to be his brother.

Now don't get me wrong this commish has been stand up and no issues, but I feel like this is painfully obvious here, am I wrong?

We get paid for a playoff birth as well as making the championship game, not that should make a difference but still.

Do you have the same record as the 3rd place team from the other division?

Is it stated in the rules that points scored is the first tiebreaker?

Yes they have a better record, but why would there be two divisions then? I mean in another league we have three divisions and no matter what 1 team from each goes and the 4th spot is record then points...

Guess I am screwed here, just gotta eat it and pull out from the league..

Just though from experience if your gonna divide divisions up that is how it is done.

I do not think that it is obvious and I think that this league is absurd for not having these things spelled out clearl.
Yea its obviously my fault for not noticing it earlier, kinda jumped in this league last minute, it isn't a high buy in league compared to some of my others but I just feel like from past leagues 2 from each division is the standard in this spot.

Yeah, I mean, that's how the NFL does it.

If the guy has a better record than you, then he should get the playoff spot over you. That is common sense.

But if your league is using Week 17 as its championship week, then it sucks anyway.

You got to win games man...should've won your division to be guaranteed playoff entry. Or scored more points. It sucks...yes but nothing wrong with it... I think it's a lame league set up.

I know ESPN automatically does it this way. The first year I setup a divisional league, the playoffs were automatically seeded in no regards to division. Because I never spelled it out in the rules that it would be done divisionally, we kept it as ESPN seeded it for the first season. Now, I have to go in manually and readjust the playoffs to ensure that 4 teams from each division advance to the playoffs and that they play according to seeding within the division.

8 teams in the playoffs? What is even the point of having a regular season? So almost everyone can make it and then a 5-8 team can somehow get lucky and win it all?

In my 16-team league, we have 8 teams make it.

In most sports, winning a division gets you a playoff spot.

But I'm not aware of a sport where coming in second place in a division awards you one. Football, baseball, basketball, hockey, the division winners get in, and then it's based on record after that regardless of division.

So no, it is not normal to do it the way you thought it should be done.

My league is like a NFL conference - division winners are guaranteed playoffs, then top remaining teams make the wildcards.

My other league treats each division like a conference so top 3 from each advance and the winner of each conference games play in the finals.

It's entirely depends on your playoff system but the OP leads me nothing to believe the top 2 from each get in

Yeah, if it's not spelled out, I'd assume that only division winners are guaranteed a spot.

I think if you are going to have divisions - then you run the playoffs like the AFC/NFC playoffs. So, based on what you described, I think you should make the playoffs for sure!
